NEW YORK, July 19, 2026, 10:08 EDT — IREN NASDAQ:IREN stock fell 18% over the week as 41% of its AI revenue target remains without contracts.
IREN Limited NASDAQ:IREN fell 18.3% over the week, ending Friday with shares at $33.62. The decline reduced its market capitalisation to roughly $11.2 billion.
That is approximately 2.5 times greater than management’s $4.4 billion annual revenue goal. However, $1.8 billion of that total, or 41%, depends on projected deployments and internal estimates.
With only named contracts, the equivalent straightforward calculation increases to 4.3 times. This figure does not represent an enterprise-value multiple and does not account for margins.
U.S. markets did not operate Sunday. Trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market is set to resume Monday at 9:30 a.m. EDT.
IREN details its post-commissioning revenue target as follows. The planned deployment number is an internal company estimate rather than contracted revenue.
| Contribution to $4.4 billion target | Annualized contribution | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft NASDAQ:MSFT contract | $1.9 billion projected average annual revenue | 43% |
| NVIDIA NASDAQ:NVDA contract | $0.7 billion projected average annual revenue | 16% |
| Planned GPU rollouts | $1.8 billion company projection | 41% |
| Total target | $4.4 billion | 100% |
The company aims to begin commissioning its latest systems in early-2027. It states that the $4.4 billion sum is not entirely contracted, and actual revenue could vary significantly.
IREN has secured $3.65 billion in GPU financing at a blended rate of 6%. This debt is not included in the equity-only comparison.
The weekly chart further challenges a company-specific rationale. IREN ended just 0.3 percentage points under the average of its three peers.
| Asset | July 17 close | Friday-to-Friday move |
|---|---|---|
| IREN | $33.62 | -18.3% |
| CoreWeave NASDAQ:CRWV | $73.21 | -17.6% |
| Applied Digital NASDAQ:APLD | $25.79 | -17.2% |
| Nebius Group NASDAQ:NBIS | $177.71 | -19.1% |
| Nasdaq Composite | 25,520.24 | -2.9% |
The four AI-cloud stocks traded in a 1.9 percentage point range. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.9%. This trend suggests a broader sector de-rating, rather than an IREN disagreement alone.
Friday saw a wider AI-driven retreat, with semiconductor stocks falling. “It’s like the market has chip fatigue,” Carson Group strategist Ryan Detrick said. Reuters
Governance concerns continue. IREN awarded 9,099,328 restricted stock units to each co-chief executive, with vesting scheduled across four years and a two-year holding requirement. A Sunday report cited renewed criticism from shareholders.
Independent Chair David Bartholomew supported the arrangement. “These are large awards and we do not shy away from that,” he said. The board stated each founder’s 2025 and 2026 awards account for roughly a 3% stake.
The operational shortfall is significant. IREN reports 810 megawatts currently in use, with another 2.1 gigawatts still being built. The company has locked in 5 gigawatts of capacity.
The next sector test takes place on Wednesday, as Alphabet NASDAQ:GOOGL reports AI investment figures. Kevin Mahn at Hennion & Walsh cautioned there could be “ripple effects across the entire AI ecosystem” should spending decrease. Reuters
Risks are significant. The target relies on prompt GPU delivery, usage and pricing. Additional risks stem from financing costs, dependence on major customers, and equity awards.
For IREN, a re-rating requires proof that planned capacity will translate into booked revenue. Meanwhile, the uncontracted 41% continues to represent the main valuation gap.
