- Bitmine used roughly $85.9 million to buy back 5.5 million shares during the previous week.
- Initial analysis indicates a 0.92% increase in ETH per share. By comparison, allocating the same amount of cash to Ether would result in an uplift of around 0.79%.
Bitmine Immersion Technologies, Inc. NYSE:BMNR adjusted its reported weekly capital allocation in favor of buying back its own stock. This step may have resulted in a greater increase in Ether exposure per share compared to purchasing additional tokens.
The company purchased 5.5 million shares at an average price of $15.6156 each, bringing total expenditure to approximately $85.9 million.
Early estimates indicate the share count following the buyback will be around 597.7 million, down from the 603.2 million shares listed on July 9.
The projection does not account for future issuances or warrant exercises. That disclaimer is significant.
| Application of $85.9 million | Shares or tokens affected | Projected ETH-per-share increase |
|---|---|---|
| Buy back company stock | 5.5 million shares | 0.92% |
| Acquire Ether at $1,879 | Roughly 45,700 ETH | 0.79% |
Initial calculation references Bitmine’s July 19 Ether valuation. The figure does not factor in fees and presumes no share issuance as a counterbalance.
The repurchase was about 16% more accretive by this limited metric. It does not determine fair value.
On July 19, Bitmine reported its Ether holdings at close to $10.86 billion, which represented $18.16 for each projected post-buyback share.
The mean buyback price dropped by 14%. Monday’s closing value of $16.63 stayed 8.4% under that identical gross, dated figure.
The U.S. cash markets had not opened at the time of filing. BMNR was indicated at $17.01 in premarket trading, a rise of 2.3% following a 6% increase on Monday.
The stock rose 4.7% over the past week. Monday’s increase brought its total gain since July 10 to 11%.
Peer company SharpLink Inc. NASDAQ:SBET gained 8.4% on Monday, reflecting some sector backing for Ether-treasury stocks.
Bitmine increased its Ether holdings by 7,430 last week. Cash and marketable securities declined by $97 million to $385 million.
The repurchase amounted to about six times the stated value of those assets. This assessment is initial, as the real token prices have not been made public.
Chairman Tom Lee said, “We view the purchase of our common shares as accretive to shareholder value.” He attributed the reduced pace of Ether purchases to the share buyback. PR Newswire
Gross holdings increased by $200 million, bringing the total to $11.5 billion. The rise in Ether value outweighed the drop in cash.
Staking generates an additional income stream. Bitmine stated that 4.92 million Ether, representing 85% of its holdings, have been staked. The company estimated annualized revenue at $247 million, based on a seven-day yield of 2.67%.
Dilution continues to be a significant factor. Bitmine issued 340.7 million shares via its at-the-market program across the nine months ending May 31. The company secured $11.87 billion in net proceeds.
Risks: Additional issuance has the potential to offset the per-share increase. Ether continues to experience significant price swings. The preferred stock was initially issued with a $350 million liquidation preference that takes priority over common stock.
In the coming week, investors will be monitoring if Bitmine carries out another buyback. The crucial focus remains ETH per share rather than total ETH.
