NEW YORK, August 13, 2026, 16:24 EDT – Applied Materials (AMAT.O) issued a revenue outlook that exceeded Wall Street predictions, with the company’s guidance outpacing analyst estimates even at its lowest point.
Applied Materials NASDAQ:AMAT projected fiscal fourth-quarter revenue in a range where the minimum figure is above analyst expectations. The semiconductor equipment manufacturer forecast $10.25 billion, with a $500 million margin of error, compared to the $9.54 billion consensus from LSEG.
That figure is crucial. The $9.75 billion minimum surpasses consensus by $210 million, representing a 2.2% increase. The midpoint suggests a 7.4% potential gain.

|---|---|---|
| Guidance at lower end | $9.75bn | +$0.21bn / +2.2% |
| Guidance midpoint | $10.25bn | +$0.71bn / +7.4% |

Nonetheless, the stock declined almost 3% after the bell to $519.70, following a 2.5% drop during the regular session. The market reaction highlights the extent to which investors had anticipated AI-driven growth.
The quarter surpassed forecasts as well. Adjusted earnings came in at $3.50 per share on revenue of $9.12 billion. Analysts polled by FactSet had anticipated $3.40 per share and $9.00 billion in revenue.

Options pricing suggested a swing of about 7% either way. Although the early drop was less pronounced, its negative momentum was significant. Even with a solid earnings beat, the stock failed to gain.
Sell-side sentiment is still largely optimistic. According to Visible Alpha, out of 12 analysts tracked prior to the report, 10 recommended buying. The average target of $689 suggested an upside of over 30% at that point.

The management team had anticipated this increase. In May, Chief Financial Officer Brice Hill stated that AI growth was “now in full force.” Applied expanded its build schedules, as well as inventory and logistics capabilities. Applied Materials
Demand extends past a single quarter. According to industry association SEMI, sales of semiconductor equipment are forecast to rise by 9% in 2026 and 7.3% in 2027. AI accelerators need increasingly sophisticated logic, memory, and packaging processes.
Applied increased its quarterly dividend by 15% in May. The company returned $765 million to shareholders in dividends and share repurchases during its fiscal Q2. While that offers support, the company’s valuation is now mainly driven by equipment-cycle forecasts.
Risks: AI investment may temporarily slow as customers absorb existing capacity. Revenue timing can also be affected by export controls, tariffs and large, concentrated orders. The $1 billion guidance range creates significant uncertainty over timing.
The guidance points to exceptionally high demand. However, with the share price declining, investors now expect such demand to continue rather than simply surpass a single quarter.
