Supply issues, notably the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, have restricted about 6% of global sugar trade, adding support to prices. Despite recent price dips due to a forecasted global sugar surplus by analysts and the International Sugar Organization, output declines in Brazil and rising Indian production-with potential for increased Indian exports-are influencing market dynamics. Indian sugar production is projected to rise 12% year-on-year, while India's ethanol sugar use estimate has been revised down, potentially freeing exports.
