  • Global Sugar Production Rises, Pressuring Prices to Multi-Month Lows

March New York world sugar futures declined by 1.01%, while March London ICE white sugar fell 0.90%, reaching a 2.5-month low. Brazil's 2025-26 Center-South sugar output rose 0.9% year-on-year to 40.222 million metric tons (MMT), with the cane crush ratio increasing. India, the world's second-largest sugar producer, saw a 22% output rise to 15.9 MMT from Oct-Jan, prompting a production forecast boost to 31 MMT. Lower estimates for sugar used in ethanol could enable higher exports. India is expanding sugar exports to address domestic surplus. Analysts predict a global sugar surplus of 4.7 MMT in 2025-26, up from prior forecasts.
