The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at a record high near 48,731 in a shortened Christmas Eve session, rising about 0.6%. Trading volume was light, with roughly 1.8 billion shares changing hands. Weekly jobless claims fell to 214,000, below forecasts. Nike shares jumped after disclosures showed Apple CEO Tim Cook bought about $3 million worth.
