  • Oil Gives Up Gains as War Fears Ease, Supplies Pick Up
July 9, 2026, 1:59 PM EDT. Crude oil prices gave up early gains and fell 1.8% with traders betting the US-Iran fight may not escalate. Oil jumped after US strikes on Iranian positions over recent attacks near the Strait of Hormuz, but pulled back after President Trump ruled out a bigger conflict and the US left Iran's energy sector untouched. Supply is also pushing prices down: Saudi exports are up to 90% of pre-war levels at 6.3 million bpd, the UAE shipped 30% more, and Russia's crude exports hit a high of 4.13 million bpd since the Ukraine war even with refinery damage. Ukrainian attacks have hurt Russian refining, forcing rationing and supply problems, but higher global supply is outweighing that for now.
