East Star Resources Shares Surge 12.5% After Copper JV Deal with Hong Kong Xinhai

The deal funds $65 million for developing the Verkhuba copper deposit in Kazakhstan, with no upfront cost to East Star. Xinhai will hold 70% of the joint venture after commissioning, while East Star retains a 30% stake. The project involves resource drilling, feasibility studies, and plant construction. CEO Alex Walker highlighted Xinhai's strong global execution track record, reducing risks typical for junior miners. Production is expected to start post-2026, targeting over 10,000 tonnes per year of copper equivalent metal. Copper prices were around $12,677 per tonne at the time.
