Citi Bump Sends AMD Up as Meta AI GPU Contract Draws Eyes

New York, June 14, 2026, 17:44 (ET)

  • AMD ended Friday up 4.7% at $511.57 after Citi upgraded the stock to Buy and lifted its price target to $575.
  • The rally draws attention as investors now look at AMD’s AI graphics chips, not just the server CPUs.
  • AMD’s next event is Advancing AI 2026, scheduled July 22–23. After that, the market shifts to Q2 and whether GPU demand from Meta holds up.

AMD jumped 4.7% to close at $511.57 on Friday, hitting $521.71 inside the session. A Wall Street upgrade revived interest in its AI chip outlook. The Nasdaq Composite added 0.31% and the S&P 500 climbed 0.50%. Stocks usually move up when earnings look stronger and drop if hopes for growth or appetite for risk cool off. AMD traders leaned in Friday, chasing more AI chip gains.

Citi’s Atif Malik bumped AMD up to Buy from Neutral, lifting his price target to $575 from $460. Malik said AMD has become a “legit second source in the GPU market,” Barron’s reported. GPUs are crucial for building and running large AI models. Expectations on AMD have risen. Now the company has to prove it can grab share from Nvidia. Pulling that off could mean a higher multiple for AMD. Barron’s

AMD is starting to get noticed for its GPUs as well as CPUs, bulls say. While CPUs still run PCs and servers, GPUs handle AI’s parallel workloads better. Citi pointed to Meta, which AMD said in February aims to use up to 6 gigawatts’ worth of Instinct GPUs. First gigawatt shipments are set for the second half of 2026. CEO Lisa Su said this order puts AMD “at the center of the global AI buildout.” Mark Zuckerberg at Meta called it an “important step” for the company as it looks for more suppliers. Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.

AMD stock got a boost from bullish calls after the company put up a 38% year-on-year revenue jump to $10.3 billion in Q1. Non-GAAP diluted EPS hit $1.37, up 43%. Data Center sales climbed 57% to $5.8 billion. Semiconductor traders tracked the non-GAAP lines, which filter out items like acquisition charges and stock comp. Looking at Q2, AMD put out a revenue forecast of about $11.2 billion, give or take $300 million, putting the midpoint at an estimated 46% annual rise.

AMD’s valuation is drawing fire, with its $844 billion market cap and trailing P/E near 168 sparking bearish chatter on whether the stock is too expensive for a chipmaker still building out its AI GPU line and aiming at Nvidia. Shares jumped Friday, and MarketBeat now lists the consensus target at $424.59, a shade under AMD’s last close. Citi stands out with a $575 target, well above the rest.

AMD hosts its Advancing AI 2026 event in San Francisco on July 22–23. The agenda is focused on AI infrastructure, architecture, and development, with sessions including the Helios rack-scale system. Investors want to hear about MI450-based systems, new customers, software updates, and how quickly AMD can move big deals into shipments and boost margins and data center growth.

AMD stock looks attractive mostly for investors willing to bet on the company’s AI GPU push and Meta spending, both key to Citi’s upbeat view. The recent rally and high multiple, though, leave shares looking expensive compared to consensus targets, so valuation-focused buyers might see little room left. The focus now is less about AMD’s AI positioning and more about whether it can meet expectations on GPU sales, margins, and new customers to back up a price that already assumes AMD will win big in AI.
