Plug Power Inc. NASDAQ:PLUG was steady at about $2.21 during afternoon trading on Thursday. The company’s proposed $80 million increase in liquidity would address just half the cash it spent in the latest quarter.
Arithmetic holds greater significance than headline order. Plug’s operations spent $150 million in the first quarter, with capital expenditures adding another $8.1 million.
An initial run-rate analysis indicates that the June cash balance covers roughly 3.1 months. Factoring in the projected liquidity increases coverage to more than 4.6 months.

Plug’s stock declined by 0.9% as the Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.4%. Hydrogen sector peers showed varied moves. Ballard Power Systems Inc. NASDAQ:BLDP was down 0.6%, while FuelCell Energy Inc. NASDAQ:FCEL rose 5.9%.
Recent sessions have seen subdued trading volumes. Tuesday’s 6.6% gain occurred with volume 43% under its 50-day average. On Wednesday, turnover was roughly 60% below average.
Plug’s stock ended at $2.17 following the announcement of the plan on July 13. On Thursday, the price was up by just around 2%. The shares continued to trade about 52% under their 52-week peak.
Plug anticipates the sale of its Graham, Texas, project to close on or about July 31. Stream US Data Centers is set to provide $50 million at the close, with an additional $26.5 million contingent on verified grid capacity.
The agreement may also free roughly $14 million in collateral. Plug anticipates the Texas deal will deliver as much as $90.5 million in total liquidity.
The revised New York deal is set at a firm $142 million price. The deadline for closing, excluding land, has been pushed to March 31, 2027. Necessary regulatory and environmental approvals are still pending.
The first quarter saw stronger operations. Revenue climbed 22% to $163.5 million. Gross margin improved, reaching negative 13%, compared with negative 55% previously. Adjusted loss narrowed to eight cents per share.

The upcoming reviews are straightforward. The Texas asset is scheduled for sale near July 31. Second-quarter earnings will indicate if cash burn has eased. Plug has not disclosed when it will report results.
Risks remain elevated. Both transactions are subject to closing conditions. The Texas earnout is contingent on the completed grid capacity. Weighted average shares increased 47% from a year earlier in the first quarter, highlighting continued dilution as a significant concern for investors.
Currently, there is little indication from relative stock strength. Finalizing the cash deals remains the more challenging hurdle.
