Hecla Mining Company (NYSE:HL) Climbs Ahead of Silver Market Ahead of Key August Cash Review

NEW YORK, July 23, 2026, 17:07 (EDT)

  • Hecla traded at $15.32 after the market closed, falling 2.4%.
  • The stock rose 5.5% since July 16, outperforming both silver and its industry peers.
  • Second-quarter earnings will be released on August 4, following the market close.

Hecla Mining Company extended its five-session advance against other silver stocks on Thursday. Shares most recently changed hands at $15.32, marking a 2.4% decline for the session. The NYSE main trading period concluded at 4 p.m. Eastern.

The lead is significant since Hecla’s most recent cash flow was calculated using much higher metal prices. Spot silver slipped 3.8% on Thursday to $57.44 per ounce, which is 31% less than the $82.70 per ounce Hecla realized in the first quarter.

Hecla announced on Thursday that it will release its second-quarter results after market close on August 4. The company’s earnings call is set for August 5 at 10 a.m. Eastern. Investors now have a confirmed date to assess performance.

Hecla reported record first-quarter free cash flow of $143.7 million, while capital investment stood at just $39.3 million. The company expects higher spending in the second quarter, with investment to stay elevated into the third.

Based on Thursday’s market capitalization of $10.34 billion, the first-quarter result suggests a provisional annualized free-cash-flow yield of 5.6%. This projection is not official company guidance and relies on the assumption that the robust quarter can be maintained.

Five-session figures are based on closing values from July 16 and market information as of July 23.

Hecla gained 5.5%, surpassing the peer median of 3.6%. The increase was also roughly 2.2 percentage points higher than the silver fund. Pan American was the nearest competitor.

One factor is the solid state of its balance sheet. In April, Hecla paid off its last senior notes, eliminating all long-term debt. Chief Executive Rob Krcmarov stated the company is “debt-free with a $225 million undrawn revolver.” Business Wire

That liquidity is able to bear the impact of softer prices or increased construction expenditures. However, by itself, it cannot maintain margins. Elevated silver, gold, and lead prices supported first-quarter cash generation.

Hecla reported silver production of 3.9 million ounces for the first quarter. All-in sustaining costs, excluding Keno Hill, stood at $8.17 per ounce after by-product credits. Gold credits contributed to lower costs at the company’s Greens Creek operation.

Metals fell on Thursday as the dollar strengthened and Treasury yields climbed, with the 10-year yield hitting its highest point in over a year. Brent crude rose to $100, fueling further worries about inflation.

American Gold Exchange analyst Jim Wyckoff described higher yields as “the enemy of gold and silver market bulls.” Market participants assigned an 83% chance to the Federal Reserve raising rates in September. Reuters

The Federal Reserve will convene on July 28 and 29. Its policy statement is due at 2 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday. Second-quarter GDP along with June inflation-related spending figures are set for release Thursday morning.

Hecla’s results will indicate if cash flow in the first quarter held up despite softer silver prices. Investors are set to focus on spending levels, Keno Hill ore grades, and power supply in Yukon. Updates on the cooling initiative at Lucky Friday will also be scrutinized as a key operational indicator.

Risks: A valuation premium is not secured by just five sessions. Declines in grades, power constraints or increased expenditure may put downward pressure on cash flow. However, rising metals prices or improved mining output could offset those effects.

At present, Hecla leads in the weekly matchup. Its August performance will indicate if the cash-flow edge continued.
