NEW YORK, August 7, 2026, 17:06 EDT — U.S. markets closed.
- QuantumScape Corporation NASDAQ:QS closed at $6.08, up 9.8% on Friday.
- Shares gained 16.5% from their July 31 closing price.
- A simple valuation bridge leaves $2.89 billion above reported Q2 liquidity.
QuantumScape climbed into Friday’s close and finished near its session high. The gain lifted its weekly advance to 16.5%.
No new company news release accompanied the move. QuantumScape’s investor page showed July 22 as its latest release.
The rally spread across several listed battery developers, based on Friday’s closing data.
| Company | Close | Friday move | Volume | Market value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| QuantumScape Corporation NASDAQ:QS | $6.08 | +9.8% | 17.82 million | $3.75 billion |
| SES AI Corporation NYSE:SES | $0.5621 | +10.6% | 25.00 million | $187 million |
| Solid Power Inc. NASDAQ:SLDP | $2.33 | +6.6% | 3.35 million | $527 million |
| Amprius Technologies Inc. NYSE:AMPX | $11.85 | +5.9% | 6.35 million | $1.62 billion |
That breadth suggests stronger sector risk appetite, rather than a QuantumScape-only catalyst. It also tempers the signal from one strong session.
The more useful investor test compares QuantumScape’s valuation with available liquidity. The market value reached about 4.4 times Q2 liquidity.
| Valuation bridge | Amount |
|---|---|
| Market capitalization | $3.75 billion |
| Reported Q2 liquidity | $859 million |
| Market value divided by liquidity | 4.4 times |
| Market value less liquidity — calculated | $2.89 billion |
The last figure is a mechanical comparison, not enterprise value. It approximates equity value assigned beyond the company’s liquid resources.
Current revenue does not support that residual. QuantumScape remains development-stage and reports no revenue to date. Q2 customer billings were $10.8 million, but were not GAAP revenue.
Spending improved from the comparable quarter. Operating cash use also declined, though more slowly.
| $ millions | Q2 2026 | Q2 2025 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Operating expenses | $106.1 | $123.6 | -14.1% |
| Net loss | $98.2 | $114.7 | -14.4% |
| Operating cash used | $56.7 | $61.8 | -8.2% |
Lower spending moderated cash erosion. However, full-year adjusted EBITDA loss guidance remains $250 million to $275 million. Capital-spending guidance was lowered to $27 million to $37 million.
The Eagle Line now carries the main execution burden. Core tools exceeded 90% uptime during Q2. Management targets another doubling of cell output during the second half.
External validation broadened in June. Honda Motor Co. NYSE:HMC signed a multi-year research agreement. Honda R&D executive Atsushi Ogawa said, “QS technology demonstrated compelling and unique advantages during our evaluation.” QuantumScape
Research is not a production award. QuantumScape says its only commercialization-intent agreement remains with Volkswagen AG’s ETR:VOW3 PowerCo unit.
The latest amendment made PowerCo funding smaller and more milestone-dependent.
| PowerCo term | July 2025 structure | July 2026 amendment | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Payment basis | Cost reimbursement, subject to goals | Milestones tied to cell delivery and validation | More direct milestone dependence |
| Maximum program payments | Up to $130.7 million | $75.4 million, including prior payments | Down 42.3% |
| Stated payment window | Two years from July 2025 | Two years from July 2026 | Reset under new milestones |
The amendment reduces maximum program payments by $55.3 million. QuantumScape received $10.4 million during Q2 and recorded it as capital. No shares were issued for that payment.
Analyst recommendations remain cautious after Friday’s rebound. The current S&P Global Inc. NYSE:SPGI poll contains no Buy ratings.
| Firm or consensus | Recommendation | Price target | Latest date |
|---|---|---|---|
| S&P Global consensus, nine analysts | Seven Hold, two Strong Sell | $6.66 average | Current snapshot |
| Evercore ISI / Evercore Inc. NYSE:EVR | Hold | $10.00 | July 28 |
| TD Cowen / Toronto-Dominion Bank NYSE:TD | Hold | $6.00, cut from $8.00 | July 24 |
| HSBC Holdings plc NYSE:HSBC | Hold | $8.30 | February 18 |
The average target sits only 9.5% above Friday’s close. Yet forecasts range from $2.50 to $10. That fourfold spread reflects deep disagreement over commercial execution.
QuantumScape’s public calendar showed no scheduled company event next week. July CPI arrives Wednesday, followed by PPI Thursday and retail sales Friday. Without company news, those releases could steer rate-sensitive growth shares.
Risks: Eagle Line delays, failed validation milestones or fresh fundraising could pressure the shares. Faster sample output and a completed PowerCo licence would strengthen the case.
