XTB Shares Dip 1.6% After Lyon Deal, CFD Revenue Exposure Hits 95%

WARSAW, August 18, 2026, 22:20 CEST — Trading on the Warsaw Stock Exchange was suspended.

  • XTB ended Tuesday down 1.6% at PLN 166.46.
  • The stock is trading 6.4% under its all-time closing high set on August 12.
  • CFDs continue to account for around 95% of revenue while a regulatory review remains ongoing.

XTB S.A. dropped 1.6% to PLN 166.46 on Tuesday. The shares ended 6.4% under their record high set last week. A new regulatory notice overshadowed growing interest in its Olympique Lyonnais partnership.

The main concern for investors is not how big the football logo appears, but rather if brand investment can attract lasting customers ahead of regulations limiting XTB’s main CFD business. Chief Executive Omar Arnaout stated that CFDs account for at least 95% of the company’s revenues.

XTB’s alliance with Lyon spans three seasons, marking the broker’s most extensive football collaboration. The company’s logo is set to feature on the club’s shirts and on LED displays within the stadium. Financial details of the deal were not revealed. “France is one of XTB’s key markets,” growth chief Szymon Szymański stated at the agreement’s announcement. SportMarketing.pl

Regulation is seen as the more urgent driver. Poland’s KNF announced on Monday that its assessment of CFD distribution is still ongoing. “Work in this area continues,” spokesman Jacek Barszczewski stated. The watchdog did not provide a timeline nor indicate any favored actions. Finance Magnates

The uncertainty halted a strong rally. XTB reached its highest point one session following the Lyon announcement but then lost the advance.

The Lyon transaction faces a clear challenge. It needs to maintain that acquisition efficiency within France. As sponsorship fees and client figures by country are not disclosed, the payback period remains unquantifiable for now.

Valuation offers limited backing from available targets. The average of six recent broker targets stands at PLN 141.11, which is 15.2% under Tuesday’s closing price.

The stock remains valued at 19.9 times its past earnings. Market capitalisation stands at PLN 19.57 billion. No company announcements are expected in the next week, with the audited half-year results due on August 28.

Risks: The regulator has yet to introduce a final rule. Heightened market volatility has the potential to boost CFD revenue, and sponsorship expenses might deliver client growth not fully reflected in existing disclosures.

A three-season Lyon sponsorship adds reach. The investable question is whether client growth can offset regulatory pressure on a business still driven by CFDs.
