Nvidia Shares Gain 2.2% as Options Market Prices in $280 Billion Earnings Move

SANTA CLARA, California, August 25, 2026, 20:45 EDT — Nvidia stock advanced 2.2%, while options traders positioned for a $280 billion change in market value tied to the company’s earnings report.

  • Nvidia stock ended Tuesday up 2.19% at $213.05.
  • Options are pricing in a 5.4% move after earnings, equivalent to roughly $280 billion.
  • Nvidia’s projected move is less than its recent earnings performances.

Nvidia Corporation NASDAQ:NVDA climbed 2.19% to $213.05 on Tuesday. Options markets were pricing in a 5.4% swing following Wednesday’s earnings report, equivalent to around $280 billion in market capitalization Reuters.

Stock chart for NASDAQ:NVDA

The projection indicates a shift of about $11.50 per share. It outlines an options-driven range between $201.55 and $224.55, not factoring in transaction fees or future volatility.

The $280 billion figure is roughly 3.1 times Nvidia’s projected $91 billion in quarterly revenue. This highlights how even slight shifts in growth or margin forecasts can alter the valuation of the world’s leading semiconductor firm.

The atmosphere ahead of Nvidia’s latest report is more subdued compared to its May results. At that time, options predicted a 6.5% swing; the stock’s typical move following the last 12 earnings reports was 7.4%, according to Reuters.

A 7.4% shift from Tuesday’s closing price translates to approximately $15.77 for each share. Based on Nvidia’s existing share count, such a change would correspond to around $382 billion, exceeding the current options forecast by about $102 billion.

Nvidia rose on Tuesday after seven straight sessions of losses through Monday. Year-to-date, Nvidia had increased by 11.7%, just below the S&P 500’s 11.8% advance, while the Philadelphia semiconductor index was up 61%.

The performance benchmark remains elevated. Revenue for the fiscal first quarter hit $81.6 billion, marking an 85% increase from the same period a year ago. Data Center revenue surged 92%, reaching $75.2 billion Nvidia’s results.

Nvidia projected fiscal second-quarter revenue at $91 billion, with a potential variance of 2% either way. The midpoint suggests sequential growth of 11.5%. The company’s guidance did not include any Data Center compute revenue from China.

Last quarter, non-GAAP gross margin stood at 75.0%. Nvidia forecast a comparable margin for the second quarter, allowing for a fluctuation of plus or minus 50 basis points. One basis point is equal to 0.01 percentage point.

Analysts maintain a generally optimistic stance. Of those monitored by S&P Global, 62 analysts have a Strong Buy consensus, setting an average price target at $304.73, with individual estimates spanning from $180 to $500 analyst data.

Risks go both ways. If hyperscalers reduce spending, or if there is weaker guidance or pressure on margins, the shares might fall below the implied range. Conversely, increased demand or encouraging news from China could render the 5.4% estimate overly cautious.

Nvidia is set to report its fiscal second-quarter earnings on August 26. The webcast starts at 14:00 Pacific time, or 17:00 EDT company event page.

What can break the range?

  • Revenue: guidance below the $91 billion reference.
  • Margins: pressure below the 74.5% low end.
  • Demand: softer hyperscaler capital spending.
  • China: any change to the zero-compute-revenue assumption.
  • Volatility: an actual move closer to the 7.4% history.
