REDWOOD CITY, California, August 26, 2026, 08:55 (PDT) —
- The FDA approved Rasonque, or daraxonrasib, as a once-daily treatment for certain adults with metastatic pancreatic cancer.
- Revolution Medicines traded at $213.01, up 0.77%, at 11:55 a.m. EDT after an 8.3% intraday range.
- The company held $3.94 billion in cash and securities against a $2.1 billion–$2.2 billion 2026 expense forecast.
Rasonque won U.S. approval Wednesday, giving Revolution Medicines, Inc. NASDAQ:RVMD its first commercial product. The stock rose 0.77% to $213.01 at 11:55 a.m. EDT.
The muted gain followed a volatile session. Shares traded from $198.91 to $216.50, an 8.3% span relative to Tuesday’s close. Volume reached 1.10 million shares by midday, or 64% of the 1.71 million daily average Google Finance.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the once-daily tablet for adults with metastatic pancreatic cancer who received prior therapy or cannot receive combination chemotherapy. Acting FDA Commissioner Kyle Diamantas called it a “critical new option” for a historically hard-to-treat cancer FDA announcement.
The decision relied on a 500-patient study. Median overall survival reached 13.2 months with Rasonque, versus 6.7 months with standard chemotherapy. That is a 6.5-month improvement, or 97% relative to the comparator Reuters.
| Measure | Rasonque | Standard chemotherapy | Investor reading |
|---|---|---|---|
| Median overall survival | 13.2 months | 6.7 months | +6.5 months; 97% longer |
| Administration | Oral tablet once daily | Intravenous cytotoxic treatment | Simpler delivery may support uptake |
| U.S. status | Approved August 26 | Established comparator | First commercial revenue can begin after launch |
The approval changes the company’s financial profile. Revolution had generated no product sales through June. Its $45.65 billion market value now rests on launch execution and broader RAS expansion, not approval probability alone.
Wednesday’s 0.77% gain added about $351 million in quoted equity value. The small reaction suggests investors expected approval after the survival data and accelerated FDA review.
The longer-term opportunity is much larger than the initial label. The Wall Street Journal cited potential annual sales above $20 billion if Rasonque succeeds across other cancers and earlier treatment stages. The present market value is about 2.3 times that broad estimate, which remains unproven WSJ.
Revolution entered the launch with $3.94 billion of cash and marketable securities. It also had up to $1.5 billion of milestone-dependent Royalty Pharma capital. Cash equaled 1.83 times the midpoint of its $2.1 billion–$2.2 billion 2026 operating-expense forecast second-quarter results.
Spending is rising quickly. Second-quarter operating expenses reached $505.1 million, up 91% from a year earlier. The net loss was $644.4 million, including a $151 million non-cash warrant charge.
The company had already distributed daraxonrasib for more than 2,000 patients under expanded access by August 5. That network covered academic and community practices across nearly every state. It provides an existing channel for the commercial rollout.
Analysts remain positive but offer limited near-term upside. Google Finance showed 18 Buy ratings and one Hold. Their average target was $222.89, only 4.6% above the midday price, with estimates ranging from $179 to $291.
Expansion studies now carry more valuation weight. RASolute 303 is testing daraxonrasib alone and with chemotherapy in untreated metastatic disease. A separate lung-cancer study is expected to produce an initial readout in 2027 first-line trial.
Risks: Revolution has not disclosed Rasonque’s price or availability. Slow reimbursement, manufacturing limits, adverse events or weaker real-world uptake could delay revenue. Failed expansion trials would leave the $45.65 billion valuation resting on a narrower patient group.
The next test is commercial. Investors need launch timing, net pricing and early prescription data before they can measure how much of Rasonque’s promise is already embedded in RVMD shares.
