Indonesia’s central bank unexpectedly kept its benchmark rate at 4.75% in October, defying forecasts for a cut. Jakarta’s main stock index fell 1% and major bank shares dropped after the decision, while the rupiah strengthened slightly. Governor Perry Warjiyo cited low inflation and currency stability as reasons for the pause. Twenty-one out of 28 economists in a Reuters poll had predicted a rate cut.
