Ukraine Blackout Fears: 80% of Businesses Pre-Stock Generators as Energy Crisis Intensifies

Russia has dramatically stepped up attacks on Ukraine’s energy grid this autumn. On the night of Oct 21, Russian drones and missiles hit power lines and substations across northern Ukraine, especially near the border. According to Amnesty International and media reports, these strikes “cut power to nearly 280,000 people in Chernihiv and thousands in Kharkiv” ground.news. Kyiv’s energy ministry confirmed 380,000 customers were still disconnected the following day after waves of drone/missile attacks on Oct 10 and 21 reuters.com reuters.com. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the assault was deliberate, noting Russia “waited for bad weather” to launch the strikes and reduce Ukraine’s air-defence effectiveness by “20-30%” reuters.com.   • Soybeans Fall With Traders Looking to USDA Wasde; Export Sales Notch Volume
    July 9, 2026, 10:16 PM EDT. Soybean futures lost 10 to 15¼ cents on Thursday. The U.S. average cash price was down 14½ cents at $11.31. Soymeal was up $3.70 to $5.10, but soy oil fell 90 to 120 points. USDA said private exporters booked 136,000 MT of 2026/27 soybeans to China and 120,000 MT to unknown. Weekly exports for 2025/26 totaled 54,349 MT, edging past last week's bottom, with China buying 202,100 MT. New crop 2026/27 sales rose to 408,250 MT, mostly marked for unknown. Traders are waiting on Friday's WASDE for changes to old and new crop stocks. July beans closed at $11.79¾, down 15¼ cents.
