Crofton Pulp Mill to Close Permanently: 350 Jobs Lost as B.C. Rejects Old-Growth Logging Lifeline

Domtar will permanently close its Crofton pulp mill on Vancouver Island by mid-December 2025, cutting about 350 jobs and removing 380,000 tonnes of annual pulp capacity. The company cited poor pulp prices and limited access to affordable fibre in B.C. The closure follows earlier layoffs in 2024 and will end all operations at the 70-year-old site.
