The S&P 500 barely moved after dipping at the open. The Dow Jones was up 50 points. General Mills jumped 7.7% after its results topped forecasts and it announced a $3 billion plan to cut costs. Manufacturing growth and price increases came in slower than expected, easing inflation fears and sending the 10-year Treasury yield to 4.47%. Kroger agreed to acquire Giant Eagle for $1.25 billion. Nike climbed 3.4% after strong earnings. Gold added 1.1% as yields slipped, and oil fell as market hopes remained in play.
