Gross transaction value for fee-bearing transactions increased by 15% to $10.4 billion. This represents approximately $115 for each fee-bearing ticket, compared to close to $109 in the prior year. The $20 promotion is 83% less than this combined figure. GTV covers various event categories and does not represent Ticketmaster’s revenue.

Chief Executive Michael Rapino reported that “more than 143 million tickets have sold through mid-July,” a figure exceeding the previous year by 14 million. According to the company’s earnings release, concerts accounted for 90% of Ticketmaster’s volume growth in the second quarter.

The forward book improved as well. Deferred GTV rose 16% to $5.2 billion. Deferred service-fee revenue increased by 23% to $390 million. Management forecasts Ticketmaster adjusted operating income to increase at a mid-single-digit pace this year.

Timing is important. Service fees from third-party customers are recorded when tickets are sold. Revenue for company-operated events is postponed until the show takes place. As a result, Tuesday’s business may impact different periods, based on the terms of each venue agreement.

Risks: Live Nation has not revealed the Silver Star allocation, making its immediate sales effect unclear. Certain seats may offer restricted views. Pending antitrust litigation or regulatory adjustments could alter ticket pricing and reselling rules.

The next scheduled operational milestone is on September 25, with the tour commencing in Hartford. This date marks the beginning of a run that will span North America, Europe and the UK until May 2027.

Investors face a clearer test ahead of that. Continued increases in deferred fees would reinforce management’s guidance. Slower conversion would indicate that top-line demand is not translating into Ticketmaster’s high-margin profits.
