NEW YORK, August 20, 2026, 17:15 EDT

Iovance Biotherapeutics, Inc. NASDAQ:IOVA rose 12.52% to $8.99 on Thursday. Trading volume hit 43.59 million shares, more than double its recent average at 2.36 times. Shares set a new 52-week high of $9.36.

The surge has moved beyond some newly revised analyst targets. UBS lifted its target price to $7 on Thursday, but maintained a Neutral stance. The consensus estimate from nine analysts sets the average target at $9.22, only 2.6% higher than the most recent closing price.

The price increase boosted Iovance’s market capitalization by around $452 million in a single session, equivalent to approximately 4.6 times its highest-ever reported second-quarter revenue. Investors are rapidly rewarding signs that Amtagvi has potential as a large-scale commercial offering.

The catalyst revealed on Thursday was a revision by an analyst rather than a fresh approval. UBS raised its price target to $7 from $4 following Amtagvi revenue surpassing forecasts. The updated target remains 22% under the current market value.

On Tuesday, Mizuho adopted a more optimistic stance, increasing its price target to $11 from $10 while maintaining its Outperform rating. The bank pointed to improved adoption and expansion of the treatment-center network as reasons for its upward revision.

The operational data is strong. Second-quarter revenue increased by 66% year-on-year to $99.3 million, and advanced 39% from the previous quarter. Gross margin hit 56% as greater output allowed fixed manufacturing costs to be amortised over a larger number of units.

Interim CEO Frederick Vogt stated, “Second-quarter revenue reached a record $99.3 million with gross margin of 56%, driven by continued U.S. Amtagvi demand.” Iovance earnings release

Amtagvi accounted for roughly 92% of revenue in the quarter. The company’s authorized network now reaches over 95 treatment centers across three regions. Iovance aims to have a minimum of 110 active sites by the end of the year. The 31-day manufacturing process continues to play a critical role in both capacity and profit margin.

Valuations are now tighter. On Thursday, the market capitalization stood at $4.06 billion, roughly 12.5 times the trailing revenue of $325.0 million. This also represents 11.3 times the midpoint of the latest 2026 forecast.

The balance sheet offers a buffer, but not complete protection. As of June 30, cash and investments stood at approximately $304 million. According to management, this amount should be sufficient to support operations into the latter half of 2028. The company nonetheless reported a quarterly loss of $47.3 million.

The company is reassessing its full-year revenue forecast of $350 million to $370 million, with a revision expected in the third quarter. First results from the lung cancer program are anticipated in the fourth quarter. Data related to sarcoma will be presented at the ESMO meeting in October.

The stock is up 28.8% from last Friday’s $6.98 close. Investors will watch next week to see if trading volume remains high. A slowdown in analyst revisions may highlight the slim margin above the target.

Risks: Amtagvi production involves intricate, patient-tailored processes and depends on consistent site performance. Delays in reimbursement, reduced patient numbers, setbacks in clinical development, or new equity offerings may weigh on both growth prospects and valuation.

The commercial recovery is genuine, as is the change in valuation. At $8.99, further gains rely less on fresh price targets and more on demonstrating that revenue, margins, and patient numbers continue rising.
