The high valuation allows limited tolerance for gradual growth. Aurora posted $2 million in revenue for the second quarter, alongside an operating loss of $266 million. While revenue saw a twofold increase, the operating loss expanded by $36 million SEC filing.

Management projects 2026 revenue between $14 million and $16 million. Over half of that is anticipated to be recorded in the fourth quarter. Delivery of trucks and customer adoption are seen as the main factors influencing short-term earnings.

Aurora plans to have 20 to 25 of its second-generation autonomous trucks ready by the end of the quarter and is targeting more than 200 by the end of the year. Roush is projected to achieve an annualized upfit rate of 1,000 trucks in October.

Liquidity offers time but not assurance. As of June 30, Aurora’s cash and short-term investments totaled $1.217 billion, covering approximately 5.5 to 6.4 quarters of its projected quarterly cash consumption.

New shares were already necessary for the balance sheet. Aurora sold 30 million Class A shares in the second quarter, raising $215 million. The net average price of $7.17 is roughly 12% higher than Thursday’s value.

Risks: Aurora’s goals rely on production, safety certification, client agreements and regulatory approval. The filing also notes that additional funding could be required. Delays might increase losses or result in further dilution.

The September meeting now has heightened expectations. Management is required to link truck counts to paying miles, revenue, and reduced unit costs. Thursday’s rally reflected anticipation of quicker progress ahead of those clarifications.
