Aehr Test Systems (NASDAQ:AEHR) shares surge 28% as investors look past backlog to future growth

NEW YORK, July 21, 2026, 16:15 EDT – Shares of Aehr Test Systems soared 28%, as investors focused on potential growth prospects that extend beyond the company’s current backlog.

  • Shares finished the session at $98.91, gaining 27.9%, before rising further to $99.51 in after-hours trading.
  • The increase on Tuesday boosted equity value by approximately $700 million, which is five times the midpoint of the company’s fiscal 2027 sales outlook.
  • The effective backlog represents approximately 72% of the revenue midpoint.

Aehr finished trading close to its session peak at $99.17. The main Nasdaq session had ended, and after-hours trading had started.

The surge brought Aehr’s market capitalization to approximately $3.22 billion. With current shares outstanding, Tuesday’s gains increased equity value by close to $700 million.

The single-day gain represents five times the company’s projected fiscal 2027 revenue midpoint. Aehr currently trades at almost 23 times that sales target.

The comparison illustrates the extent to which valuation has outpaced reported orders.

ComparisonAmountRelationship
Current equity valuation$3.22 billion23.0 times the fiscal 2027 sales midpoint
Equity value gained in one dayAbout $700 million5.0 times the fiscal 2027 sales midpoint
Existing backlog$100.6 million71.9% of the sales midpoint
Estimated non-GAAP income at guidance midpoints$28 millionEquity value is roughly 115 times income

Figures are initial estimates and approximate, based on Tuesday’s closing price, a $140 million revenue midpoint, and a 20% non-GAAP income midpoint.

The math is significant. Even with the full backlog converting within the year, an additional $39.4 million is still required to hit the midpoint revenue target.

Aehr’s jump outpaced the wider rally. The Philadelphia semiconductor index climbed 5.5%, and the Nasdaq advanced 1.39%.

Teradyne climbed approximately 12.2% near the session’s end. Cohu (NASDAQ:COHU) was up 9.1%, and FormFactor increased 8.1%. The peer data was preliminary as of around 15:57 EDT.

Aehr’s investor relations website showed July 14 as the date of its most recent financial disclosure. This implies that the surge on Tuesday continued the post-earnings revaluation, with additional support from sector-wide buying.

The report indicated fourth-quarter revenue was $18.8 million. Bookings set a new record at $60.7 million. Effective backlog rose to $100.6 million.

The company forecasted fiscal 2027 revenue between $130 million and $150 million. Non-GAAP net income is projected at 18% to 22% of revenue.

Chief Executive Gayn Erickson stated the backlog gave “substantial visibility” for the outlook. Erickson added that Aehr’s main AI client was making a significant increase to capacity. Aehr Test Systems

According to Google Finance, four analysts covering the stock assign a Buy rating. Their mean price target of $115 is 16.3% above the closing level on Tuesday.

The previous week saw a contrasting setting. The chip index declined nearly 10%, sliding into a bear market as it dropped over 20% from its June peak.

Semiconductor earnings are set to challenge Tuesday’s rebound in the coming week. For Aehr, the immediate focus is on order conversion as its next company-specific hurdle.

Lindsey Bell, chief investment strategist at 248 Ventures, stated that chip stocks are “priced for perfection.” The revised multiple for Aehr adds more significance to that caution. Reuters

Risks — The company’s effective backlog is still roughly 28% lower than the midpoint of forecast revenue. According to Aehr’s most recent quarterly filing, a single customer accounted for 42.1% of overall revenue. The composition of that customer base may have shifted since February.

Tuesday’s rally settled the issue of momentum, but increased the pressure on execution.
