Mexico’s stock market just had a bruising week — what hit the Bolsa Mexicana?

Mexico’s S&P/BMV IPC index dropped 5.73% over five sessions, closing Friday at 67,312.78 points. A spike in oil prices and a weak U.S. jobs report rattled markets, sending the peso lower and hitting miners, airlines, and industrial stocks. USMCA review talks between U.S. and Mexican officials are set for the week of March 16, adding uncertainty for exporters.

  • Crude Oil Prices Rise as Strait of Hormuz Closure Cuts Global Supplies
April 10, 2026, 3:13 AM EDT. Crude oil prices surged, with May WTI crude up 3.66%, following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic chokepoint handling about 20% of global oil shipments. The shutdown restricts Gulf crude flows, forcing a roughly 6% production cut amid storage limits. Saudi Aramco also raised prices by $17 a barrel for its main oil grade to Asia, marking a record jump. Meanwhile, gasoline prices dropped slightly, influenced by hopes for Middle East de-escalation as Israel agreed to talks with Lebanon. The US and Iran blame each other for ceasefire violations, complicating the outlook. Despite OPEC+'s plan to raise output by 206,000 barrels per day (bpd) in May, the Middle East conflict hampers production restoration efforts.
