  • Live Cattle Futures Rally Ahead of USDA Cattle on Feed Report

Live cattle futures rose $1.15 to $1.37 on Thursday as traders positioned ahead of Friday's USDA Cattle on Feed report, which tracks cattle inventory and placements at feedlots. Cash trade showed cattle priced from $183-$295 across regions. Feeder cattle futures gained $1.50 to $2.72 despite the CME Feeder Cattle Index dropping $1.06 to $242.67. USDA reported beef export sales fell sharply to 15,855 MT with shipments at a marketing-year low of 12,498 MT. Wholesale boxed beef prices advanced, with Choice boxes up 78 cents to $315.99 and Select boxes up 95 cents to $302.03, narrowing their spread. Cattle slaughter estimated at 121,000 head on Thursday was up from last week but below last year. Futures closed with notable gains across live and feeder cattle contracts.
