Mortgage rates today: U.S. 30-year hits lowest since Sept 2024 as UK lenders cut deals

The U.S. 30-year fixed mortgage rate fell to 6.25%, its lowest since September 2024, MBA data showed Wednesday. Mortgage lenders and homebuilder shares rose in premarket trade as Treasury yields eased. Applications dropped over the holiday period despite the rate decline. Canada’s best advertised five-year fixed rate stayed near 3.89%; UK two-year fixes averaged 4.81%; Australia’s variable average was about 5.51%.
