Cash cattle trade was firmer, with light deals around $246 in the South, up $1 from last week. Feeder cattle futures also advanced $1.85 to $2.60. USDA data reported beef export sales of 17,408 metric tons in the week of April 2, led by South Korea and Japan. Shipments fell to 13,321 MT, the lowest in four weeks. Boxed beef prices were mixed; Choice boxes rose $1.43 to $31.09 per hundredweight, while Select dropped 70 cents. Federal cattle slaughter for Thursday was estimated at 105,000 head, down 4,000 from last week and nearly 39,000 below last year. The market signals steady demand amid tightening supply.
