Santander rolls out 2% deposit mortgage for UK first-time buyers — here’s the fine print

Santander UK launched a five-year fixed mortgage allowing first-time buyers to borrow up to 98% of a home’s value, with a minimum £10,000 deposit and borrowing capped at £500,000. Brokers and consumer groups warned of higher rates and negative-equity risks for buyers with small deposits. The deal is open only to first-time buyers. Santander said the offer aims to address deposit barriers in the housing market.
