  • Meme Coins Like Dogecoin: Are They Viable Long-Term Investments?
June 29, 2026, 12:59 AM EDT. Meme coins, such as Dogecoin, began as internet jokes yet now hold a 1.25% stake of the total crypto market by value. Their price dynamics often show dramatic surges and crashes, with Dogecoin down 89% from its all-time high despite an overall 19,000% gain since launch. This volatility and lack of diversified investment options, such as ETFs encompassing a range of meme coins, complicate their use as reliable long-term investments. Industry experts caution that meme coins may be better suited for short-term speculation rather than sustained portfolio allocation.
