Costco Canada recall expands: Peace by Chocolate pistachio chocolates pulled over salmonella risk

Ottawa, January 9, 2026, 14:59 EST

Costco Wholesale Canada told customers who bought certain Peace by Chocolate gift boxes online to stop eating two pistachio-containing chocolates, after an ingredient supplier triggered a warning over possible Salmonella contamination. The “voluntary, precautionary” recall covers Our Classic Box – 15 assorted filled chocolates (lot codes — the batch numbers on the packaging — 25284/2026OC11, 25297/2026OC24, 25247/2026SE04, 25251/2026SE08, 25329/2026NO25) and The Harmony Bar (25245/2027FE28, 25322/2027MA18, 25300/2027AL22, 25280/2027AL06, 25281/2027AL06) included in Peace by Chocolate Small and Medium Bestsellers Boxes purchased on Costco.ca between Sept. 7 and Dec. 3, the notice showed. 1

The warning lands as Canada’s pistachio recall list keeps growing, pulling in everything from plain nuts to snacks and sweets. In the past several months, more than 330 pistachio or pistachio-containing products have been recalled by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, while the salmonella outbreak tied to the issue began in mid-March and has continued through January, CityNews reported. 2

But the CFIA said its food safety investigation is still underway and “may lead to the recall of other products,” a line that has become routine in this file. The agency’s consolidated list, updated on Jan. 8, shows newer additions including Plant Veda’s Cashew Pistachio Milk – Saffron & Cardamom (320 mL and 1 L) and a “We Love Canada” Heavenly Mix snack blend (best before 2026/06/30), alongside dozens of other products with national or online distribution. 3

Local outlet 604 Now, which flagged the Costco notice on Friday, quoted the advisory that food contaminated with Salmonella “may not look or smell spoiled” but can still make people sick, with symptoms including fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. It also said Peace by Chocolate had not received reports of illness linked to the recalled products as of Jan. 8. 4

The practical headache now is simple: pistachios show up everywhere, and batch codes are easy to miss on a crowded label. The recall notice is aimed at online buyers, but the boxes were sold as gifts; once they’re unwrapped and split up, tracking which piece came from which lot gets messy.
