IonQ (NYSE:IONQ) Continues to Lead in Revenue While Quantum Competitors Hold Higher Valuations

NEW YORK, July 20, 2026, 12:07 p.m. EDT

Quantinuum and Quantum Computing Inc. together were valued at an estimated $16.8 billion around midday Monday, based on an early calculation. The figure outpaced IonQ by roughly 30%.

Quantinuum and QUBT together reported revenue of $8.9 million in the first quarter, 86% less than IonQ’s total. IonQ posted first-quarter revenue of $64.7 million.

The divergence is the strongest cue for investors in quantum stocks. IonQ appears to have a genuine commercial advantage. The market valuation reflects this optimism.

Last week, MarketBeat identified Quantinuum and QUBT as potential rivals. However, early annualized data puts both companies at approximately 473 times their first-quarter revenue, while IonQ’s valuation is around 50 times.

A Yahoo Finance article republished from Motley Fool on Monday described IonQ as a potential “next Palantir.” This comparison is already reflected in its valuation. Yahoo Finance

IonQ was valued at 47.9 times its highest sales projection for 2026, while Palantir Technologies was priced at about 44.8 times its own upper sales estimate.

U.S. regular markets were open when published. IonQ was up 0.1% at $34.83, according to delayed data. Quantinuum rose 3.6%, and QUBT increased 0.3%.

*Preliminary figures. Annualized sales are determined by quadrupling first-quarter revenue. Quantinuum’s estimated worth updates its June listing valuation to reflect Monday’s postponed price. Guide multiples are based on the upper end of each company’s range.

Barron’s stated last week that IonQ posted losses over nine consecutive sessions, with shares dropping close to 28%. This marked the company’s longest streak of declines since September 2023.

IonQ reported improved operating metrics. First-quarter revenue increased by 755%, while remaining performance obligations climbed to $470 million.

Cash and investment holdings totaled $3.1 billion. CEO Niccolo de Masi pointed to “strong and growing demand.” IonQ lifted its 2026 revenue guidance to a range of $260 million to $270 million. IonQ Investors

Growth continues to come with a price tag. IonQ reported an adjusted EBITDA loss of $96.8 million for the first quarter. The company projected its adjusted loss for the full year to be in the range of $310 million to $330 million.

Palantir stands out in comparison. First-quarter revenue came in at $1.63 billion. The company reported an adjusted EBITDA margin of 61%, and its GAAP net margin was 53%.

Quantinuum reported a 73% decline in first-quarter revenue, totaling $5.2 million. The company posted a net loss of $136.6 million. QUBT generated $3.7 million in revenue but posted a gross loss of $721,000.

In June, IPOX Schuster analyst Kat Liu said the investment thesis for Quantinuum was based on the “long-term potential” of quantum computing. She made the remark as the company went public. Reuters

That puts IonQ in a unique position. The company currently maintains a significant sales advantage, while its valuation mirrors that of a successful software company.

Risks are still elevated. Quantum revenue is modest and volatile, with significant losses persisting. High valuation multiples mean any slip in execution could prove costly.

The drop in IonQ’s share price did not lower the expectations built into it. The company remains ahead in present revenue. Investors continue to price in significantly more.
