- By 09:00 EDT, Nasdaq-100 futures dropped 1.35%, almost double the decrease seen in S&P 500 futures.
- Brent climbed to $92.54, while the 10-year Treasury yield remained around 4.78%.
- Energy was the top-performing sector in premarket trading, as eight out of 11 sector ETFs declined.
By 09:00 EDT on Tuesday, Nasdaq-100 futures declined 1.35%. Futures on the S&P 500 dropped 0.69%, and Dow futures slipped 0.61% Reuters market report.
The drop in the Nasdaq was nearly double that of the S&P. The disparity highlighted how higher energy prices and yields weighed on long-duration growth stocks.
Nasdaq futures fell 1.06% between 04:00 and 09:00 EDT, with a further 0.16% decline recorded in the last hour. S&P futures decreased by 0.57% throughout the session and edged down an additional 0.06% after 08:00.

Oil and bonds drove the move. Brent climbed 2.27% to $92.54, with WTI up 2.75% at $88.12. The 10-year yield stood at 4.784% as of 08:55 EDT, an increase of 2.6 basis points Associated Press.

Rising oil prices may push inflation higher and squeeze corporate profit margins. In addition, an increase in Treasury yields boosts discount rates on future earnings. Technology stocks are particularly exposed to this duration risk.
Premarket trading saw limited breadth. Energy rose 3.51%, while healthcare was up 0.56%. Eight sector ETFs declined, with communication services and industrials posting the largest drops XLE quote; XLK quote.

Individual stocks posted notable changes. GoPro Inc. NASDAQ:GPRO soared 151.8% to reach $1.51. Robinhood Markets Inc. NASDAQ:HOOD rose 2.5% following an upgrade from Morgan Stanley NYSE:MS.
Aon plc NYSE:AON slid 8.7% to $324.62 after announcing its $17 billion acquisition of USI. The deal will be financed with new debt and will temporarily halt share repurchases. Aon anticipates adjusted earnings accretion starting 2028 Aon filing.
Stocks moving against the macro tape

GoPro’s action came after fresh focus on Mark Fischbach’s passive holding of 8.5%. The disclosure shows 13.5 million shares with exclusive voting authority.
Pre-market trading was active, with approximately 149,700 E-mini S&P contracts traded between 04:00 and 09:00 EDT. The volume of Nasdaq-100 futures reached around 64,300 contracts in the same period.
With the cash market not yet open, exchange breadth data was not accessible. The primary NYSE session starts at 09:30 EDT NYSE hours.
Data risk appears swiftly. S&P Global NYSE:SPGI will publish its manufacturing reading at 09:45 EDT. July job openings figures and the ISM manufacturing index are set for release at 10:00 EDT BLS schedule; ISM calendar.
“The balance of risks still points to yields remaining elevated,” said Richard de Chazal, an analyst at William Blair. This environment means technology remains vulnerable to any uptick in inflation signals Reuters.
