Rigetti Computing (NASDAQ:RGTI) climbs as cash reserves highlight valuation against high sales multiple

NEW YORK, July 22, 2026, 16:06 EDT

  • Rigetti ended Wednesday just below a provisional $15.20, slipping 0.5%.
  • The company’s shares rose 7.7% since Friday, surpassing the performance of two other listed quantum peers.
  • A basic calculation shows 8.8 years of operating runway; however, the annualized sales multiple stands at 290 times.

Rigetti Computing closed Wednesday at about $15.20, trimming some of Tuesday’s 7.2% increase. The regular session on the Nasdaq had finished, but after-hours trading was still ongoing.

Tuesday’s climb was linked to a widespread tech rally, with the Nasdaq Composite up 1.29%. The information-technology sector added 2.35%.

The balance sheet serves as the primary quantifiable backing.

As of March 31, Rigetti reported holding $569.0 million in cash and Treasury securities. Operating cash outflows for the first quarter amounted to $16.2 million.

Based on annualised cash usage, the initial gross runway stands at 8.8 years. Factoring in $4.4 million in quarterly capital expenditures reduces that figure to 6.9 years. Both numbers are not official company guidance.

The cash extends the timeframe. It does not render the valuation inexpensive.

Rigetti has a market capitalization of around $5.1 billion, which is about 290 times its annualized revenue for the first quarter. The company posted $4.4 million in sales for the quarter.

Even after deducting available cash and investments, the ratio remains close to 257 times. This initial estimate relies on one quarter’s revenue rate. Sales driven by contracts may fluctuate significantly from one period to another.

Rigetti has demonstrated recent relative strength, as indicated by the price record:

Rigetti rebounded more quickly than its peers following last week’s selloff. However, all three continued to trade significantly beneath their June 22 marks. The rally on Tuesday failed to offset the wider drop.

The Commerce Department indicated in a May letter of intent that as much as $100 million could be allocated. The potential funding would span a period of three years and includes the option for a government equity stake.

Subodh Kulkarni, Chief Executive, stated the investment would “tackle key scaling bottlenecks more rapidly.” The agreement is currently a letter of intent and not a finalized award. Rigetti & Co, LLC

On average, the funding would amount to roughly $33 million per year. This would account for 51% of annualised operating cash consumption from the first quarter. Factoring in capital expenditures reduces the initial coverage estimate to approximately 40%.

Execution has become a greater focus than short-term liquidity. Rigetti has secured an $8.4 million contract with India’s C-DAC. The 108-qubit system is slated for installation in the second half.

Rigetti’s investor calendar currently shows no scheduled events until after July 29. The Federal Reserve is set to hold meetings on July 28 and July 29, with U.S. GDP figures and inflation-related consumption data due for release on July 30.

Such releases have the potential to shift interest-rate expectations. Quantum stocks with high beta may experience significant swings in response.

Risks continue to be clustered. Increased outlays for fabrication may reduce the projected runway. Technical setbacks could push revenue further out. An equity position by the government could lessen the holdings of current investors.

For investors, the upcoming challenge is clear: Rigetti needs to turn its funding period into consistent system sales.
