SAN JOSE, California, August 15, 2026, 17:20 PDT — U.S. cash markets are closed for the weekend.
- Super Micro ended Friday at $39.84 after a sharp post-earnings rally.
- Fiscal 2027 revenue guidance beat the Wall Street consensus by about 30%.
- Next quarter’s guided margin makes profit conversion the central test.
Super Micro Computer NASDAQ:SMCI gave investors a $68.5 billion sales promise. Its next margin guide makes that promise harder to value.
At company guidance midpoints, September-quarter revenue reaches $15.0 billion. Yet indicated gross profit falls to about $1.59 billion. That is roughly $367 million below the June quarter, despite 35% more sales. The calculation uses management’s adjusted margin ranges and is an analytical estimate.
| Profit conversion | Fiscal Q4 2026 | Fiscal Q1 2027 midpoint | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $11.12 billion | $15.00 billion | +34.9% |
| Adjusted gross margin | 17.6% | 10.6% | -7.0 points |
| Indicated gross profit | $1.96 billion | $1.59 billion | -18.7% |
The June quarter still marked a large operating recovery. Revenue nearly doubled to $11.12 billion, while adjusted earnings reached $1.70 a share. Revenue missed the LSEG estimate of $11.55 billion. Gross margin reached 17.5% on a GAAP basis.
| Reported or guided measure | Super Micro | Wall Street | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fiscal Q4 adjusted EPS | $1.70 | $0.92 | +84.8% |
| Fiscal Q4 revenue | $11.12 billion | $11.55 billion | -3.7% |
| Fiscal Q1 revenue midpoint | $15.00 billion | $11.80 billion | +27.1% |
| Fiscal 2027 revenue midpoint | $68.50 billion | $52.50 billion | +30.5% |
Management blamed the revenue shortfall on customer delays involving power, cooling and networking. Finance chief David Weigand said the margin gain reflected a better mix. Some contracts also moved into the September quarter, according to the company.
Demand is not the weak link. Super Micro recorded more than $60 billion of new orders in the June quarter. It entered fiscal 2027 with record backlog. The company cautioned in July that some orders may be cancelled or delayed.
Customer breadth improved, too. Nine clients each generated more than $1 billion in fiscal 2026 revenue. The comparable count was four a year earlier. CEO Charles Liang said the company added several hundred enterprise and other customers.
| Fiscal 2027 revenue case | Revenue | Growth from fiscal 2026 | Revenue after Q1 midpoint |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low end | $65.0 billion | +66.2% | $50.0 billion |
| Midpoint | $68.5 billion | +75.2% | $53.5 billion |
| High end | $72.0 billion | +84.1% | $57.0 billion |
The annual guide also demands acceleration beyond September. At the midpoint, the final three quarters must average $17.83 billion. That is 18.9% above the first-quarter midpoint. The order book offers support, but delivery timing will decide the result.
Wall Street remains split. Raymond James sees more upside, while Citi and Goldman targets sit near or below Friday’s close. Their disagreement tracks the central issue: demand looks strong, but margins remain volatile.
| Broker | Recommendation | Latest cited target | Implied move from $39.84 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Raymond James | Outperform | $48 | +20.5% |
| Needham | Buy | $46 | +15.5% |
| Citi | Neutral | $39 | -2.1% |
| Goldman Sachs | Cautious / target raised | $34 | -14.7% |
Citi analyst Asiya Merchant flagged customer timing, working-capital intensity and concentration. Emarketer analyst Gadjo Sevilla took the other side. He said the margin improvement and volume outlook showed “operational leeway.” MarketWatch; Reuters
The rally spread across AI infrastructure. Dell Technologies NYSE:DELL and Hewlett Packard Enterprise NYSE:HPE also gained after Super Micro’s report. Their moves were smaller. Super Micro rose 13% on Wednesday, then closed Friday at $39.84.
Next week, investors will test whether the earnings rally can hold. U.S. cash trading resumes Monday at 09:30 EDT. Fresh broker estimates should reveal how much of the $68.5 billion outlook analysts accept.
Risks: Large orders can slip, shrink or disappear. Customer concentration raises quarterly volatility. Super Micro is also reviewing alleged export-control issues. Working-capital demands and a return to lower margins could offset rapid sales growth.
