Sensex, Nifty Open Higher as India-US Trade Deal Hopes Boost Indian Equities
December 12, 2025, 12:03 AM EST. Sensex rose 391 points to 85,209 and the Nifty gained 112 points to 26,010 as markets opened higher on Friday on bets of a near-finalised India-US trade deal. Strength was broad, with leaders including L&T, Hindalco, Tata Steel, Ultratech Cement, Adani Ports and Bajaj Finance among top performers, while Wipro, Sun Pharma and Infosys trimmed gains. The midcap and smallcap segments outperformed, rising about 0.4-0.5%. The Nifty Metal index jumped around 1.44%, with gains also in Nifty Realty, Nifty Media, Nifty Private Bank and Nifty Financial Services; however, Nifty FMCG edged lower. The mood was buoyant after PM Modi spoke with President Trump on Thursday, with officials continuing negotiations, and global cues supporting appetite for risk.
