GSK share price today: stock edges up after $2.2 billion RAPT deal closes and buyback rolls on

London, March 4, 2026, 09:47 GMT — Regular session.

GSK edged up 0.8% to 2,138 pence as of 0947 GMT on Wednesday, clawing back some losses from the previous session, after the company said it wrapped up its acquisition of RAPT Therapeutics. The most recent closing price, according to delayed data, was 2,122 pence.

This shift is significant; investors increasingly see GSK’s outlays on its pipeline and its shareholder payouts as one and the same narrative. Bringing drugs to market through deals certainly helps, though costs, trial schedules, and future steps still loom large.

GSK’s latest acquisition brings in ozureprubart, a lab-produced antibody aimed at blocking immunoglobulin E (IgE), now in a phase IIb trial targeting food allergy protection. “Ozureprubart is a promising asset,” said Kaivan Khavandi, who heads R&D for respiratory, immunology and inflammation at GSK, in the statement. The company put the deal’s total cash consideration near $2.2 billion, with about $1.9 billion upfront after accounting for cash on hand. London South East

GSK picked up 630,000 of its own shares on March 3, paying a volume-weighted average price of 2,139.22 pence, according to a Wednesday filing. The buyback, executed through BNP Paribas, sends the shares straight to treasury. Since February 17, the company has repurchased a total of 5.266 million shares under the ongoing programme.

Treasury shares refer to stock a company scoops up and holds on its balance sheet; this move trims the number of shares out there, nudging per-share figures higher as time passes. While buybacks can help stabilize demand during softer sessions, they leave the company’s actual operations untouched.

The FTSE 100 slipped 0.3% by 0900, with heavyweight stocks still feeling some strain as equities tried to regain footing after a turbulent stretch. Dan Coatsworth, head of markets at AJ Bell, told Reuters, “The market will start to worry about new inflationary pressures,” warning that pricier energy could push back potential rate cuts. For GSK, the spotlight is less on the “deal done” and more on the speed—and expense—of getting ozureprubart through trials. The company is targeting phase IIb data in 2027. Until then, questions will linger.

Still, clinical-stage gambles have a way of falling flat—and major trial results won’t land until after this financial year wraps. Should the drug miss the mark in testing, all that strategic thinking unravels fast, and suddenly the deal’s cost feels steep.

Traders are eyeing the steady flow of buyback announcements and gauging if deal activity keeps up this pace. Volatility lingers, and funding costs could move—that’s in the mix too.

GSK’s first-quarter numbers drop Wednesday, April 29, with investors zeroing in on whether there’s any shift in spending or pipeline focus.
