Oklo (NYSE:OKLO) surges by roughly $430 million following initial U.S. nuclear-AI strategy

NEW YORK, July 21, 2026, 19:06 (EDT)

  • The U.S. cash markets have closed; Oklo shares rose 5.6% in after-hours trading.
  • A federal initiative worth a reported $200 million is still in its early stages.
  • Initial estimate shows Oklo and X-Energy gained around $930 million post-market.

Oklo’s market value climbed by about $430 million in after-hours trading on Tuesday, surpassing twice the entire reported size of the federal program.

The focus moves from funding to operational steps. The $200 million effort involves multiple parties, but Oklo’s share is unspecified.

As of March 31, Oklo possessed $2.54 billion in cash and securities. The entire declared pool makes up under 8% of that liquidity.

According to Bloomberg, Microsoft Corp. and Nvidia Corp. are participants as well. Further information may be released Wednesday during a U.S. Energy Department summit. The report is still in early stages.

The U.S. regular session finished with Oklo up 6.3% at $44.13. Shares were recently trading around $46.60.

X-Energy ended the session at $16.79, gaining 7.2%. Shares were last seen trading around $18.02 in after-hours activity.

Initial calculations result from multiplying end-of-session market capitalisations by the after-hours percentage changes. The five-day numbers reflect a comparison between closing levels on July 14 and July 21.

Total gains after hours reached approximately $930 million, equivalent to about 4.6 times the announced program.

The investor perspective is at play here. The initiative focuses on accelerating plant growth, but Oklo’s specific gains have not been disclosed.

Oklo was down 4.6% across five sessions ending Tuesday, while X-Energy rose 9.5% in that period.

Oklo projects its 2026 operating and investing cash use to range between $430 million and $550 million. The company reported a loss of $33.1 million for the first quarter.

The company generated $1.18 billion by selling shares through an at-the-market program, bringing in 12.4 million new shares over the quarter.

Depending on the terms, federal cost sharing has the potential to lower future equity requirements. Investors are expected to monitor how allocation and cost-sharing guidelines are structured. The achievement of project milestones will also be significant.

The coming week poses a fresh challenge. Oklo aims to achieve first criticality at its Groves isotope test reactor in July.

The DOE needs to finish a readiness review and issue startup authorization. CEO Jacob DeWitte described Groves as “a truly representative facility of future commercial facilities.” Oklo

Risks continue to be significant. The program could be revised ahead of any announcement. Oklo is also exposed to risks related to licensing, fuel, and first-of-its-kind construction.

The policy message had greater value than the disclosed cash at Tuesday’s market prices. Wednesday’s conditions will challenge that assessment.
