IREN Limited (NASDAQ:IREN) Ends Wild Week Nearly Flat as $4 Billion AI Target Raises Delivery Bar

NEW YORK, August 2, 2026, 13:01 EDT

  • IREN closed Friday at $36.80, down 3.8%. It lost 0.7% for the week.
  • Its year-end AI Cloud target exceeds 29.8 times annualized latest quarterly AI revenue.
  • Three mining-to-AI peers report next week, providing fresh sector benchmarks.

U.S. markets were closed Sunday. IREN finished Friday at $36.80 after falling 3.8%. The stock lost only 0.7% across the week. That masked a 30.5% Thursday surge and a 13.6% Wednesday drop.

Stock chart for NASDAQ:IREN

The investor test has shifted. IREN targets more than $4 billion of year-end AI Cloud annual recurring revenue, or ARR. It says roughly 85% is under contract. Converting those contracts into accepted capacity now matters most.

Latest reported AI Cloud revenue was $33.6 million for the March quarter. Annualized, that equals $134.4 million. The year-end target is more than 29.8 times higher. This comparison is directional because ARR is a non-GAAP run rate.

“Our vertically integrated AI Cloud platform is scaling at pace,” co-Chief Executive Daniel Roberts said. IREN plans to deliver 480 megawatts during 2026. That compares with roughly 3 megawatts a year earlier. It targets 1.2 gigawatts in 2027. GlobeNewswire

Friday trading remained heavy. Volume reached 65.5 million shares, 34% above the 65-day average. The stock ranged between $35.16 and $40.82. That combination suggests active repricing, not a quiet weekly finish.

The latest quarter shows why the business story is changing.

Revenue lineMarch quarter 2026March quarter 2025Change
Bitcoin mining$111.2 million$141.2 million-$30.0 million
AI Cloud$33.6 million$3.6 million+$30.0 million
Combined revenue$144.8 million$144.8 millionAbout flat

Combined figures are calculated from IREN’s reported revenue lines.

AI Cloud added $30 million from a year earlier. Bitcoin mining lost the same amount. AI growth therefore offset the mining decline dollar for dollar. Yet Bitcoin still supplied 76.8% of combined quarterly revenue.

Funding helps bridge the buildout. IREN says recent customer prepayments cover about 45% of associated GPU spending. Contract terms average roughly four years. Preliminary, unaudited cash and equivalents were $7.6 billion at June 30. That included $1.7 billion of restricted cash.

Friday’s market capitalization was $13.15 billion. That is less than 3.3 times management’s minimum year-end ARR target. The ratio looks modest only if delivery stays on schedule.

AI execution measureAmountCalculated comparison

Year-end AI Cloud ARR targetMore than $4.0 billionMore than 29.8 times baseline
Approximate contracted share85%About $3.4 billion at the target floor
Friday market capitalization$13.15 billionLess than 3.3 times target ARR

Calculations use a $4 billion target floor. ARR remains non-GAAP, forward-looking and execution-dependent.

Next week offers three sector read-throughs. IREN lists no event for the period on its current investor calendar. Peer calls may reset assumptions for hosting demand and capital needs.

DateCompanyScheduled event
August 4Cipher Digital Second-quarter update before market; call at 08:00 ET
August 5TeraWulf Second-quarter call at 08:00 EDT
August 6MARA Holdings Second-quarter call at 17:00 ET

Times are company-announced and may change.

Risks: The ARR target depends on GPU delivery, commissioning, testing and customer acceptance. Utilization and pricing must also hold. Bitcoin still drives most reported revenue, leaving IREN exposed to mining economics.

The weekly close offers a clear message. Contract demand has advanced faster than reported AI revenue. The next rerating needs commissioned GPUs, accepted capacity and visible sales.

Further analysis

Has IREN mitigated demand risk for its 2026 AI project?
Nearly 85% of IREN’s AI Cloud ARR goal of over $4 billion is now under contract. Recent agreements bring total contract value up by $2.8 billion. Around 45% of the associated GPU capital outlay is covered by customer prepayments. Annual revenue projections from Microsoft and NVIDIA remain at roughly $2.6 billion. Customer concentration continues to be significant. GlobeNewswire
Is IREN able to turn its built capacity into recognized revenue?
AI Cloud revenue climbed to $33.6 million in fiscal Q3, marking a 94% quarter-on-quarter increase. IREN aims for 480 megawatts by December 2026 and plans to achieve 1.2 gigawatts in 2027. The ARR projection depends on prompt GPU delivery, commissioning, utilization, and customer acceptance. The focus now shifts to execution. GlobeNewswire
To what extent does Bitcoin continue to impact short-term performance?
Bitcoin mining accounted for $111.2 million, or 77% of revenue in the fiscal third quarter. Overall revenue declined 22% from the previous quarter as mining operations were scaled back. The shift led to a $140.4 million impairment and a net loss of $247.8 million. Fluctuations in bitcoin prices and network difficulty continue to impact earnings in the short term. GlobeNewswire
Is IREN shares undervalued at $36.80?
Shares finished at $36.80, representing a drop of roughly 52% from the 52-week high of $76.87. The market capitalization stands at $12.28 billion, less than 3.1 times the target ARR. This measure does not account for debt, restricted cash, or future funding requirements, and is based on a non-GAAP target rather than actual revenue. The valuation's attractiveness hinges on execution. StockAnalysis
Is IREN able to support growth without taking on significant leverage or issuing substantial new shares?
IREN reported cash holdings of $7.6 billion as of June 30, though $1.7 billion was earmarked for GPU financing tied to Microsoft. The company sold $3.0 billion worth of 1% convertible bonds and secured $3.6 billion through project financing. Prospective dilution factors include NVIDIA’s right to 30 million shares and 18.2 million CEO RSUs. Liquidity remains strong, yet dilution and leverage concerns persist. GlobeNewswire
How does analyst consensus affect IREN’s share price outlook?
Sixteen analysts have a Buy consensus, setting an average price target of $81.73. That represents a 122% gain based on the $36.80 closing price. Forecast targets vary from $46 to $131, reflecting significant execution risk. StockAnalysis
