Silver price nears $90, lifting SLV stock after-hours as CPI and CME margin shift hit traders

Silver hit another peak Tuesday, with silver-related stocks gaining after the U.S. market closed. The iShares Silver Trust rose roughly 1.8% in after-hours trading. Spot silver hovered near $86.94 an ounce, marking a 2.1% increase on the day after briefly reaching $89.13, according to Investing.com.

Silver prices slid more than 2% on Wednesday as profit-taking and a firmer U.S. dollar cooled a sharp rally that pushed the metal to record highs. Spot silver — the price for immediate delivery — was down 2.3% at $79.40 per ounce by 10:01 GMT, after hitting an all-time high of $83.62 on Dec. 29. “It’s been quite a frenetic and volatile start to kick off the New Year,” said Jamie Dutta, chief market analyst at Nemo.money. Silver price jumps above $80 and SLV surges after hours as Fed-and-jobs week bites

Shares of iShares Silver Trust, a silver-backed trust that trades like a stock, rose 6.7% to $73.71 in after-hours trading on Tuesday, as spot silver — the cash price for immediate delivery — jumped 5.4% to $80.68 an ounce. “Precious metals traders see more risk on the horizon than stock and bond traders do at present,” said Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Metals, citing the weekend U.S. raid in Venezuela and renewed safe-haven demand. SLV stock jumps as silver price climbs above $80; Venezuela turmoil and Fed cuts in focus

Shares of iShares Silver Trust rose 6.3% to $73.44 in afternoon trade on Tuesday as silver prices pushed higher. Silver miner First Majestic Silver gained 7.9%, while Pan American Silver and Wheaton Precious Metals were up about 4.0% and 3.6%, respectively. SLV hit $73.83 and had traded about 70 million shares by early afternoon.
