Eli Lilly unveils £110 Foundayo in UK, heightening focus on NHS hurdles

LONDON, August 24, 2026, 09:36 BST

  • Foundayo begins private rollout in Britain, with pricing projected at £100–£120 per month.
  • The £110 midpoint represents a decrease of roughly 67% from Lilly’s monthly Mounjaro price of £330.
  • Foundayo reported revenue of $98 million in its debut quarter, accounting for just 0.4% of Lilly’s total revenue.
  • Lilly was little changed in U.S. premarket trade, after rising 0.88% on Friday.

Eli Lilly and Company introduced Foundayo in pharmacies across Britain on Monday. The oral treatment for obesity debuts at about one-third the monthly private cost of Mounjaro.

The discount could broaden the private-pay market, but the main investor issue remains unresolved. National Health Service reimbursement is still being reviewed.

The firm estimates the monthly price of Foundayo will range from £100 to £120. In comparison, Mounjaro is priced at £330 per month. Currently, Foundayo can only be accessed with a private prescription.

Britain became the first European market to approve and launch sales of the drug. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency granted authorisation for its use in weight management and type 2 diabetes on August 10.

The early revenue calculation is small compared to Lilly’s overall size. With a monthly price of £110, having 100,000 regular patients would generate £132 million in yearly gross list-price revenue. This is simply an example and not a projection.

Access through the NHS could alter the situation. Lilly is collaborating with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence for a review. There has been no reimbursement verdict released.

Foundayo accounts for a minor presence within Lilly. Its first reported sales period, the second quarter, saw it bring in $98 million. By contrast, Mounjaro and Zepbound together delivered $14.87 billion.

The launch remains strategically significant, offering Lilly a more affordable oral alternative to Novo Nordisk A/S , whose Wegovy tablet previously secured UK approval. Foundayo does not require food or water limitations.

Lilly’s main business is projected to generate between $85 billion and $87 billion in revenue by 2026. Sales for the second quarter climbed 48%, with volume up 60%. Realised prices dropped by 13%.

The share price finished Friday at $1,255.40, rising 0.88%. In Monday’s premarket trade at 04:36 EDT, it stood at $1,255.26, a decrease of 0.01%. The stock showed a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 42.1.

The consensus provides limited tolerance for a gradual start. Out of 28 recommendations, 22 are positive, but the average price target reflects just 4.4% potential upside.

Risks: NICE could postpone or limit access. Novo’s pill might keep its initial advantage. Gastrointestinal side effects, patient dropouts, discounts, or supply limitations may cut actual sales.

Private prescriptions determine product uptake. Whether the UK rollout proves financially significant will depend on reimbursement.

Investor read-through

Britain validates the oral platform, but private-pay sales start small against a $86bn guidance midpoint. NICE access is the real volume gate.

What can break the case

Slow reimbursement, Novo competition, discontinuations, safety concerns or lower realised prices could expose a premium valuation.
