The investor signal sits inside the margin guide. Lam could add about $619 million of adjusted operating profit on $1.38 billion of sequential sales. That produces a 44.9% incremental margin.

The June quarter beat forecasts, though revenue was only modestly ahead.

The forward guide was far stronger. Revenue midpoint cleared consensus by $1.01 billion. EPS midpoint beat by $0.32. These are preliminary company estimates, not reported results.

Support revenue also improved earnings quality. It grew nearly twice as fast as systems revenue. Its share of total sales rose to 36.8% from 33.5% one year earlier.

Support posted a third consecutive quarterly record, helped by equipment upgrades. Management also lifted its 2026 wafer-fabrication-equipment estimate to the low-$150 billion range from $140 billion. “Looking into 2027, we see an extraordinary setup for WFE growth,” Chief Executive Tim Archer said. JPMorgan Chase analyst Harlan Sur raised his price target to $340 from $315. He retained an Overweight rating. That target stood about 11% above Lam’s morning price.

The read-through spread across the equipment group. Applied Materials , KLA and ASML Holding all rallied. The iShares Semiconductor ETF gained 8.0%.

ASML Holding$1,662.58+7.2%
iShares Semiconductor ETF$502.24+8.0%

Risks remain. China generated 26% of June revenue, while domestic Chinese customers declined sequentially. Export controls and stretched lead times can disrupt shipments. Lam also traded near 57 times trailing earnings after the jump.

The next test is whether the 45% incremental margin survives the ramp. Support growth must also remain ahead of systems. If both hold, management’s mid-50% gross-margin and mid-40% operating-margin goals become more credible.

Further analysis

What is driving the sharp rise in LRCX shares today?

Lam Research shares were at $303.12 at 10:12 a.m. EDT, a rise of 20.1%. The company’s management issued its September-quarter outlook after markets closed on Wednesday, sparking the move. Revenue guidance stood at $8.1 billion, about 14% ahead of LSEG consensus expectations. Despite this increase, Lam Research stock was still around 31% below its June peak. This marks a relief rally following a deep chip-sector selloff in July. The Wall Street Journal

Was there a significant outperformance against expectations in the most recent quarter?

Revenue for the fiscal fourth quarter reached $6.72 billion, narrowly ahead of the $6.67 billion forecast. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $1.82, topping the LSEG consensus of $1.68. Revenue exceeded expectations by just 0.8%, while adjusted EPS surpassed estimates by 8.3%. On an annual basis, revenue climbed 30%, and GAAP EPS advanced 34%. However, the main surprise was in the guidance, not in the reported sales beat. Reuters

What is management’s outlook for the September quarter?

Lam forecasts revenue of $8.1 billion, with a potential fluctuation of $400 million. The company projects adjusted EPS at $2.15, within a 15-cent band. Prior to the results, LSEG consensus stood at $7.09 billion and $1.83 per share. The guidance midpoint suggests 20.5% sequential revenue growth and an 18.1% rise in EPS. At the low end, $7.7 billion still tops the earlier consensus. Reuters

Are gains in margins sufficient to uphold the outlook?

Non-GAAP gross margin rose to 52.0%, increasing by 210 basis points from the previous quarter. Operating margin climbed 340 basis points to 38.4%. Management forecasts September operating margin at 39.5%, with a possible fluctuation of one point. The widening margins amplify earnings growth beyond gains in revenue. However, factors such as tariffs, supply expenses, and export controls may weigh on profitability. Lam Research Investor Relations

Is expansion driven solely by new chip manufacturing equipment?

No. Customer-support revenue totaled $2.47 billion, accounting for 36.8% of sales in the quarter. The category grew 42.6% on the year, outpacing revenue growth from systems. Sales from systems rose 23.6% to $4.25 billion. Support revenue covers service, spares, upgrades and Reliant equipment, highlighting growth that extends beyond shipments of new systems. Lam Research Investor Relations

What is Lam Research’s level of exposure to China and Asian market demand?

China accounted for 26% of revenue in the June quarter, trailing Taiwan at 27%. Korea contributed 20%, with these three territories together representing 73% of total revenue. Reuters noted that Taiwan Semiconductor and Samsung are major clients. This distribution ties Lam’s fortunes to foundry and memory spending patterns across Asia. Export restrictions, tariff changes and shifts in client spending remain material uncertainties. Lam Research Investor Relations

Are cash flows matching reported profits?

Not in this quarter. Operating cash flow totaled $1.46 billion, compared with $2.55 billion a year ago. Working-capital changes lowered cash flow for the quarter by around $860 million. After $189 million in capital expenditures, free cash flow was approximately $1.27 billion. Lam distributed about $572 million via share repurchases and dividends. Cash remained above debt and leases by approximately $1.84 billion. Lam Research Investor Relations

Is LRCX overvalued following today’s surge?

LRCX is priced at $303.12, corresponding to 33.7 times FactSet’s projected fiscal 2027 EPS of $8.99, which has risen from $8.08 over the past month. The company reported fiscal 2026 GAAP EPS of $5.76, resulting in a trailing multiple of 52.6. This ratio drops sharply as analysts forecast robust earnings growth, which reduces tolerance for missed guidance or weaker sector valuations. Analyst estimates could be revised as they update their models following earnings. The Wall Street Journal

What do projections from analysts and indicated price ranges suggest?

Data from Google Finance indicated 21 analysts rated the stock as a buy, with three holds, and no sell recommendations out of 24 tracked. The consensus price target stood at $381.89, roughly 26% above the $303.12 mark. Analysts provided price forecasts ranging from $300 to $500, reflecting significant variation. The immediate resistance level is the intraday high at $319.50. The most prominent downside gap is at the previous close of $252.35.
