SAN FRANCISCO, August 12, 2026, 17:20 PDT
- SoFi ended the session at $16.47, rising 8.14%, with 78.3 million shares changing hands.
- July inflation cooled the market’s perceived likelihood of a Fed rate hike in September.
- SoFi increased its revenue guidance but maintained its EBITDA outlook.
Shares of SoFi Technologies NASDAQ:SOFI rose 8.14% on Wednesday, as easing inflation bolstered rate-sensitive trading on Wall Street. The stock ended the session at $16.47, just below an intraday high of $16.48.
The change is significant as interest rates act as a double-edged tool for SoFi. Decreased funding costs may boost demand and lift loan values. However, both deposit spreads and asset yields have the potential to adjust as well.
| Wednesday market movement | Close | Change |
|---|---|---|
| SoFi | $16.47 | +8.14% |
| S&P 500 | 7,748.50 | +0.26% |
| Nasdaq Composite | 26,588.49 | +0.54% |
| Dow Jones Industrial Average | 53,770.27 | -0.04% |
SoFi surpassed the Nasdaq by 7.60 percentage points. Trading volume was close to 78.3 million shares, aligning with its typical daily average. The main indexes showed much less movement.
Consumer prices increased 0.1% in July compared to June and were 3.4% higher year-on-year. Core inflation posted a 0.2% monthly gain and a 2.5% annual rise. Traders reduced the likelihood of a September hike to 38%, down from 48.4%.
“Though not conclusive, the report is likely to further allay the Fed’s concerns about an inflation wave driven by energy,” said Scott Anderson, chief U.S. economist at BMO Capital Markets. He noted that inflation in the services sector must still slow. Reuters
The data provided a boost for rates. SoFi’s underlying financials still present a tougher challenge. The company’s management raised its 2026 adjusted revenue outlook to between $4.75 billion and $4.85 billion while maintaining adjusted EBITDA guidance at around $1.6 billion.
| SoFi operating measure | Q2 2026 | Year-on-year change |
|---|---|---|
| Adjusted net revenue | $1.206 billion | up 40% |
| Adjusted EBITDA | $357.8 million | up 44% |
| Total loan originations | $14.8 billion | up 69% |
| Members | 15.8 million | 35% higher |
| Products | 24.4 million | rose 42% |
The steady profit target frames incremental margins as the focal point for investors. SoFi increased the midpoint of its previous revenue guidance by about $150 million, yet this did not lead to a raised EBITDA outlook.
Growth continues at a robust pace. Loan originations totaled $14.8 billion, with personal loans accounting for $10.7 billion of that figure. Student-loan originations increased 170% to $2.7 billion.
Cross-selling performance strengthened as well. Existing members accounted for 51% of new product openings, compared to 35% in the previous year. Chief Executive Anthony Noto stated SoFi was “starting to hit escape velocity” in digital finance. SoFi earnings transcript
There are counterbalances. The contribution margin for financial-services decreased by six points to 46%. Sales and marketing costs increased by 48% to $392.4 million, representing roughly 32% of adjusted revenue.
The technology platform continues to weigh on results. Revenue for the segment declined 23% to $84.5 million following the loss of a major client. Its contribution margin narrowed to 14%, compared with 30% previously.

|---|---|---|
| 2026 adjusted EPS forecast | $0.60 | 27.5 times projected profit |

SoFi ended Wednesday with a price near 27.5 times its projected adjusted EPS. This valuation relies on sustained growth and improved operating leverage. The upcoming test will be if increased revenue boosts profit forecasts.
Risks: A resurgence in inflation may renew expectations for rate hikes and dampen demand for loans. Margins could also be pressured by credit losses, higher marketing expenses, or a slower rebound on the platform.
