Santander Executive Chair Ana Botín described the two banks as “a perfect match.” The acquiring bank aims to achieve roughly $800 million in annual pre-tax cost savings. Additionally, it anticipates group earnings-per-share to increase by 7%–8% by 2028.

Risks: The 0.38% spread is narrower than typical daily fluctuations. Any closure delay, issue with final conditions, or a sudden change in Santander could eliminate it. Tax implications and settlement timing vary between investors.
Wednesday’s market activity suggests position settlement rather than a new stance on Webster’s independent bank. The investment focus transitions to Santander’s integration, efficiency gains and U.S. returns following completion.
