  • SK Hynix CEO Sees Memory Crunch in 2027, Supply To Lag Demand Past 2030

SK Hynix CEO Kwak Noh-jung is warning of a worst-ever global memory chip shortage in 2027, saying demand will top supply for at least another decade, even with expansions. The South Korean chipmaker, which supplies AI memory to Nvidia, saw its Nasdaq shares jump 13.3% at debut. Kwak said the company is still weighing new wafer fab sites, including in the U.S., looking at land, utilities, labor, and costs. SK Hynix and Samsung got a boost from South Korea's push to double memory output in five years, but investors still worry about industry downturns. The company is also putting $14 billion into U.S. chip and AI projects.
