Salesforce shares climb, boosting market value by $21 billion following $1.6 billion contract with VA

NEW YORK, July 28, 2026, 11:59 a.m. EDT — U.S. trading begins.

Salesforce Inc. advanced 5.4% to $182.92 late on Tuesday morning. The gain stretched a rally into its fourth session after securing a major U.S. government contract.

The stock has risen 16.6% since Thursday’s close, with an initial estimate valuing the jump in equity at approximately $21.4 billion.

Stock chart for NYSE:CRM

The increase amounts to 13.4 times the total maximum value of the contract. The difference stands as the most evident indication to investors.

Buyers appear to view the award as validation within the public sector. The direct contract revenue itself seems insufficient to account for the re-rating.

The Veterans Affairs contract has a maximum value of $1.6 billion over up to three years. Salesforce is set to implement Missionforce, Agentforce, Slack, MuleSoft and Data 360.

The agency serves upwards of 17 million veterans, managing 170 medical centers as well as more than 1,100 outpatient clinics.

Kendall Collins, who oversees government cloud at Salesforce, stated the platform will “connect its people, data, and workflows across the department.” Business Wire

The initial contract covers only the first year, with renewal options available for the following two. If all options are taken, the average ceiling is approximately $533 million per year, amounting to around 1.2% of Salesforce’s projected FY27 revenue midpoint.

The initial estimate is based on 823 million projected Q2 diluted shares and incorporates the $182.92 price noted at 11:45 a.m. EDT.

Salesforce holds a significant presence in government business. Last quarter, annual recurring revenue from its Public Sector Industry Cloud exceeded $2 billion, marking a 23% increase.

Agentforce and Data 360 reached almost $3.4 billion in annual recurring revenue, reflecting growth of more than 200%. The rise adds strategic significance to the VA deployment, beyond its impact through direct billing.

Revenue in the first quarter increased by 13% to reach $11.1 billion. Remaining performance obligations as of now were up 14%, totaling $33.6 billion.

Management forecasts fiscal year 2027 revenue between $45.9 billion and $46.2 billion, an increase of roughly 11%. Free cash flow is projected to grow by 4% to 5%.

The stock benefited from a wider uplift in software shares. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF (NYSEARCA:IGV) rose 1.5% on Tuesday.

Shares of ServiceNow Inc. advanced 4.9%. Microsoft Corp. climbed 2.5%. Oracle Corp. was up 0.3%.

Needham analyst Joshua Reilly said software could be at “an inflection point.” He pointed to steady business trends alongside lower valuations for the sector. According to Barron’s, IGV trades at nearly 25 times projected earnings, down from 35 to 40 a year earlier. Barron’s

Monday’s chart review identified $173.79 and $176.31 as resistance points. On Tuesday, the intraday peak of $184.50 surpassed both thresholds.

GuruFocus’s automated discounted cash flow tool estimated intrinsic value at $432.81, suggesting roughly 137% upside from the price quoted on Tuesday. The model presumes annual growth of 32% in earnings per share over a decade.

This reflects a bullish outlook rather than a neutral standard. The projection is considerably more optimistic than the present guidance for revenue and cash-flow growth.

Risks persist. The $1.6 billion amount represents a maximum, with two additional years subject to renewal. Delays in federal implementation or a downturn in software valuations could diminish some of the upside.

What is driving CRM shares higher at the moment?

Salesforce shares (CRM) were at $182.84 at 11:45 a.m. ET on July 28, marking a 5.3% increase. Shares traded between $174.90 and $184.50 during the session, with volume at 7.42 million. The price rise brings gains from Friday’s $163.66 close to about 11.7%. There were no new earnings or guidance announcements from Salesforce by that point. The move comes after Friday’s VA award and Monday’s broad software rebound. Salesforce Investor Relations

What is the significance of the $1.6 billion VA contract?

The deal spans three years, resulting in an annualized headline value of $533 million. This represents roughly 1.2% of the midpoint of Salesforce’s $46.05 billion fiscal 2027 outlook. But contract value does not equate to recognized revenue or guarantee even timing. Salesforce has not updated its guidance since announcing the contract. Cloud ARR for Salesforce’s public-sector segment topped $2 billion last quarter, growing 23%. Salesforce Investor Relations

What does Salesforce need to achieve in its second quarter?

Salesforce expects revenue between $11.27 billion and $11.35 billion, a rise of 10% to 11%. Current remaining performance obligation is projected to increase by roughly 14%, or 13% excluding currency effects. Adjusted earnings per share are forecast at $3.25 to $3.27, while GAAP EPS guidance is $1.74 to $1.76. The quarter ends Friday, July 31. As of now, Salesforce’s investor page shows no earnings event scheduled. Salesforce Investor Relations

Is the core business expanding at the pace implied by the headlines?

For now, the answer is still no. Informatica adds just over four percentage points to growth in the second quarter, indicating Salesforce’s existing business is expanding at around 6% in constant currency. The full-year outlook projects 11% growth, which includes nearly three percentage points from Informatica. Management anticipates organic revenue growth to speed up in the second half of fiscal 2027. Salesforce Investor Relations

Is Agentforce reaching financial significance?

Agentforce annual recurring revenue (ARR) totaled $1.2 billion, up 205% from a year earlier. ARR for Agentforce and Data 360 together reached close to $3.4 billion, with Informatica Cloud ARR accounting for $1.1 billion of that sum. Premium Agentforce SKU bookings increased nearly 60%, and work units rose 111%. For comparison, Agentforce ARR represents 2.6% of full-year revenue guidance. ARR differs from recognized revenue. Does CRM remain undervalued following its recent recovery?

CRM is priced at $182.84, valuing it at about 13.0 times its projected non-GAAP EPS and approximately 23.0 times the center point of its GAAP EPS forecast. The non-GAAP calculation factors in $4.94 per share from stock-based compensation and $2.28 per share from purchased-intangible amortization. CRM is trading about 33% below its 52-week peak of $274.00. Whether shares are considered inexpensive hinges on the return of sustained growth. Salesforce Investor Relations

Is the benefit of the $25 billion buyback greater than the impact of the increased debt?

Salesforce raised $25 billion through debt and was initially allocated 103 million shares. The average price for delivered shares was $198.34, or roughly 8.5% higher than the current market price. As of April 30, the debt principal stood at $39.5 billion, while cash and securities totaled $11.8 billion. Quarterly interest expenses increased significantly to $317 million from $68 million. The ASR contributed $0.14 to first-quarter EPS. While the added EPS is tangible, higher financing expenses are now significant. SEC

What is currently the primary argument against CRM?

AI-native solutions could cut headcount, impact pricing, or prompt internal substitutions. Salesforce cautions that new AI deployments may affect demand for its services. The company also states that optimizing consumption-based pricing continues to be a challenge. The upcoming $3.6 billion acquisition of Fin represents another integration hurdle. In one instance, a client dropped a $600,000 annual agreement after deploying an in-house platform. While notable, this example does not indicate a widespread pattern. SEC

What are the key factors investors need to monitor in the upcoming week?

The intraday peak of $184.50 set today serves as the immediate level to watch. The stock previously settled at $173.60, with Friday’s finish at $163.66. Salesforce’s fiscal second quarter concludes on Friday, July 31. No earnings date is posted on the company’s investor site. Broader sector rotation could impact CRM apart from company news. These numbers are for reference, not precise predictions. Salesforce Investor Relations
