HOUSTON, August 29, 2026, 12:47 (EDT).
- Chevron’s stock increased by 1.05% to close at $201.86 on Friday, boosting its market capitalization by roughly $4.1 billion.
- Reuters said the company is nearing a deal to restructure and broaden its Venezuelan oil operations.
- The consensus analyst price target of $218.29 suggests a potential upside of around 8.1% from Friday’s closing price.
Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX) rose 1.05% on Friday, as investors considered the prospect of Venezuelan growth. The increase boosted its equity value by about $4.1 billion.
The advance was notable amid an overall sluggish market. The S&P 500 declined 0.25%, while Chevron performed better than both Exxon Mobil and ConocoPhillips Friday market data.
The investment thesis goes beyond a single trading session. Chevron is seeking to turn its access to heavy-oil resources into sustained production growth.
The company is nearing completion of the process to transition its Petropiar venture into Venezuela’s updated energy framework, Reuters said. The deal would grant broader operational authority and enable expansion into the adjacent Ayacucho 8 block Reuters.
A second Orinoco venture could also undergo expansion. The deal has not yet been signed, and Chevron did not provide a comment to Reuters.

Chevron begins negotiations with robust cash flows. The company reported second-quarter earnings of $12.1 billion, equal to $6.11 per share.
Adjusted earnings totaled $12.0 billion. Return on capital employed stood at 21%. Global production increased by 20%, while U.S. output hit an all-time high Chevron’s SEC filing.
Refinery utilization climbed to 97%. This operating level supports growth prospects, though Venezuelan heavy crude continues to need diluent, infrastructure, and stable political conditions.
Analysts are positive overall. Chevron holds a buy rating in a consensus of 25 analysts, with the mean price target set at $218.29 and projections ranging between $175 and $241 MarketScreener consensus.
The target range is significant. The close on Friday shows limited upside based on consensus, whereas the lowest estimate points to a 13.3% drop.
Risks: contract conditions may fall short of expectations, sanctions could be reinstated, or spending on projects could increase ahead of a rise in output. A drop in crude prices would also reduce the value of additional barrels.
The upcoming test is the anticipated signing on Wednesday. Investors are advised to pay attention to Chevron’s stake, investment commitment, fiscal terms, and production schedule.
