U.S. equities moved higher in the first 30 minutes of Thursday trade, as a drop in Treasury yields helped counterbalance the effects of $92-per-barrel oil. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.74% to 26,411.08. The Dow rose by 0.72%, while the S&P 500 increased 0.51% Yahoo Finance delayed market data.
The bond market gave a clearer indication. The 10-year yield was at 4.752% as of 09:48:33 EDT, a decrease of 4.4 basis points. WTI crude traded at $92.12 at 09:53:36 EDT, maintaining a gain of 1.22% Yahoo Finance.
Early trading saw mixed performance. The iShares Russell 2000 ETF NYSEARCA:IWM edged up 0.14% from Wednesday but slipped 0.46% from its 09:30 level by 10:00 EDT.

Trading volume indicated focus rather than trend. SPY saw 6.24 million shares traded by 10:00 EDT. QQQ registered a volume of 5.59 million shares, while IWM posted 2.67 million shares exchanged.
Eight out of 11 sector funds ended higher than Wednesday’s close, with financials posting a 1.27% rise. Materials, staples, and healthcare sectors stayed in negative territory.

Investors received mixed signals on growth from new trade figures. The July trade gap expanded by $17.4 billion to reach $88.6 billion. Imports increased by 2.8%, whereas exports declined by 2.1% U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.
Updated productivity figures indicated reduced inflationary pressure. Nonfarm productivity increased by 1.4% on an annualized basis in the second quarter. Unit labor costs climbed 1.2%, slightly below the initial estimate of 1.3% U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Company developments increased the spread on the tape. Snowflake Inc. NYSE:SNOW jumped 22.46% after raising its full-year product revenue forecast to $6.07 billion SEC filing. NVIDIA Corp. NASDAQ:NVDA advanced 1.74% following news of its $12.93 billion agreement with Hugging Face NVIDIA Newsroom.
Broadcom Inc. NASDAQ:AVGO dropped 6.42% after projecting fourth-quarter revenue of $34.8 billion, falling short of analysts’ estimates, even as its quarterly revenue climbed 86% company release; Reuters.

“Markets have absorbed a lot of disruption and held up better than many people expected,” said Benjamin Jones, global research head at Invesco Ltd. NYSE:IVZ Reuters. Performance in the first half-hour reflected that sentiment, though small caps were weaker.
Risks: Crude over $92 may bring renewed inflation risks and lift yields. Clashes near Iran are currently the main threat to supply Associated Press. The U.S. jobs report on Friday could soon alter the trajectory for rates.
