  • Micron ended Friday at $920.95, falling 6.99% on the day, yet gained 8.5% over the week.
  • Cloud memory along with core data centers contributed 61% of revenue in the fiscal third quarter.
  • Microsoft NASDAQ:MSFT is set to report on July 29, with Amazon.com NASDAQ:AMZN scheduled for July 30.

Micron shares fell 7% on Friday, though this move masked a more positive weekly trend. U.S. cash markets did not operate on Saturday. The Nasdaq opens for standard trading at 9:30 a.m. EDT on Monday.

The stock price climbed to $920.95 on Friday, up from $848.95 on July 17, giving shares an 8.5% rise for the week.

The Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.1% during the week, while Micron exceeded its performance by 10.6 percentage points.

The gap stems from business factors. Last quarter, Micron’s cloud-memory and primary data-center divisions generated $25.29 billion, accounting for 61% of overall revenue.

The blend turns hyperscaler budgets into a key driver for shares. Alphabet NASDAQ:GOOGL boosted its 2026 expenditure outlook by $15 billion this week.

Alphabet posted a free cash flow deficit of $5.9 billion. Revenue from Google Cloud increased 82%. Following the announcement, Micron advanced 3.2% on Thursday.

Chip stocks broadly declined on Friday. Investors considered the costs linked to expanding artificial intelligence.

The division was evident at the close.

Micron holds a higher level of contractual protection compared to earlier cycles. The company has secured $22 billion in commitments through sixteen customer agreements.

According to calculations, these commitments account for 44% of Micron’s $50 billion revenue midpoint. Outstanding performance obligations amount to approximately $100 billion.

Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra stated last month that “tight conditions” are likely to continue past calendar 2027. The company forecasts a gross margin of about 86% for the quarter. Its projected revenue midpoint points to 20.6% growth from the previous period. Reuters

The next review is scheduled for next week. Microsoft will release its results on Wednesday, with Amazon set to report on Thursday.

Reuters preliminary consensus estimates indicate Azure is expected to grow by roughly 40%, while AWS growth is projected close to 31%. “The risk is tilted towards further increases,” said Charu Chanana, strategist at Saxo Markets. Reuters

Rivalry is heating up as well. SK Group announced an initiative exceeding $500 billion alongside Nvidia NASDAQ:NVDA, featuring a long-term memory collaboration with SK Hynix KRX:000660. Samsung Electronics KRX:005930 entered into a memorandum of understanding with Broadcom NASDAQ:AVGO worth up to $200 billion.

The primary concern is the normalization of supply. Significant investments by major competitors could boost capacity once present shortages subside. “Once supply starts to creep back, pricing power is the first thing at risk,” Direxion’s Jake Behan said. Reuters

Micron’s outlook hinges on demand supported by cash. Robust cloud expansion and increased capital expenditure would benefit its 61% exposure to data centers. Conversely, if spending rises while cash flow remains weak, the volatility seen on Friday could return.
