NuScale Power Corporation (NYSE: SMR) shares dropped 4.62% on Friday, with nuclear sector developers facing a sell-off. The downturn wiped out about $190 million in market capitalization.
NuScale remains valued by the stock at close to $4.0 billion. This figure equates to roughly 373 times its trailing revenue of $10.7 million. The valuation relies predominantly on anticipated future reactor agreements.
The contrast is softened when considering cash. At the end of June, NuScale held $1.9 billion in cash and investments, amounting to 48% of its equity value as of Friday.

The declines among peers indicate a broader sector trend instead of news focused on any single company. Treasury yields climbed after Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh issued a warning about inflation Reuters. Higher discount rates put added pressure on long-term cash flows.
NuScale saw heavy trading, with 37.8 million shares exchanged, which is 112% of its average volume over the past 65 days. As of mid-August, short interest accounted for 16.9% of the float.
The financial shortfall persists. Revenue for the second quarter declined to around $75,000 following the conclusion of Romanian engineering activities. Cumulative net losses reached approximately $416 million.
NuScale’s spending continues to outpace orders, with research expenses up $6.6 million from a year earlier. Administrative costs climbed by a further $4.4 million company results.
The technology is more developed than several competitors. Every authorized NuScale Power Module produces 77 megawatts. Twelve units together can deliver up to 924 megawatts.
Chief Executive John Hopkins said the work for commercial readiness was nearly finished. He noted involvement from over 60 specialized suppliers, along with more than 30 agreements finalized.
Commercial validation has yet to materialise. NuScale and ENTRA1 remain in talks with the Tennessee Valley Authority on a power-purchase deal. The RoPower initiative in Romania is also pending satisfaction of outstanding requirements.
Wall Street is split. Eighteen analysts rate the stock as Hold, with an average price target of $12.63—an upside of 36%. Price targets range between $6 and $20 market and analyst data.
Risks: Delays in contracts may prolong losses and reduce the revenue multiple. There is still uncertainty regarding construction expenses, customer financing, and regulatory clearances. Additional share offerings could dilute current shareholders.
The upcoming financial update is set for November 5. Investors are expected to concentrate on confirmed orders, partner contributions and cash flow. These factors are viewed as more significant than reaching another technical milestone.
