What to watch

Two-year Treasury yields, Gulf headlines and airline/utility reactions. Chicago PMI comes later Monday; ISM manufacturing follows Tuesday and payrolls Friday.

In early premarket trading, a familiar divide appeared. Energy-linked stocks gained, while shares exposed to higher rates and fuel costs came under pressure.

Available interval: 04:00–05:00 EDT. Because the session was one hour old, session-to-date and last-hour changes cover the same period.

Brent was last around $90.40, while West Texas Intermediate hovered near $85.51. This came after U.S. airstrikes targeted Iranian launchers and Iran responded by attacking a U.S. base MarketWatch.

Bond markets highlighted inflation concerns. The two-year Treasury yield climbed to roughly 4.35% following Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s hawkish comments at Jackson Hole Investor’s Business Daily.

Shares tied to oil rose, with Halliburton advancing 2.4%, Valero climbing 2.3%, and Chevron rising 1.8%. Early decliners included utilities and California energy companies Investing.com snapshot, 04:45 EDT.

GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) dropped 1.6% in busy premarket trading. Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) slipped 0.8%, while Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) rose 0.6%.

Market breadth did not yet reflect the cash session. Liquidity before the market opened stayed limited, and the visible volume was scattered among different venues.

The macroeconomic calendar was quiet ahead of the open. Chicago PMI was set for release later on Monday, with ISM manufacturing data expected Tuesday and payrolls slated for Friday.

Risks: Oil and futures prices can shift quickly due to Gulf headlines. Limited early liquidity can also cause less dependable movements in individual stocks compared to standard trading hours.

The following indicator is if energy gains extend beyond 06:00 EDT. Continued increases in two-year yields would add pressure to sectors sensitive to interest rates.
